COUNTY COMMISSIONERS REWARD ROGER'S INEPTITUDE, PROCRASTINATION

By Juan Montoya
Using the pretext of a looming deadline from the Texas Secretary of State for reports from the 2012 May primary that had not been filed by resigned (ahem, retired) former Cameron County Elections Administrator Roger Ortiz before he left at the beginning of 2013, County Judge Carlos Cascos, Pct. 1 commissioner Sofia Benavides and Pct. 2 commissioner Ernie Hernandez rewarded him with a one-month $5,000 gig so he could finish w hat he was paid for already.
The usually ebullient Pct. 4 commissioner Dan Sanchez – aware a firestorm of protest was brewing over the court's proposal – ducked the issue and was absent.
Only Pct. 3 commissioner David Garza took the bull by the horns and expressed his distaste at having Ortiz came back as a paid consultant when he should have performed those tasks before he left.
"Roger should have done all this before he left," Garza was reported as saying.
Current Elections Administrator Chris Davis says he doesn't have the expertise to finish the tasks that bare required or to oversee the redrawing of the city and county voting precincts by another consultant who is helping both the city and county redraw the lines before this year's city commission elections in May. He also admitted he doesn't know how to file the required reports on the primaries.
Funny that he didn't say any of this during the interviews for the position earlier this year, isn't it?
Those statements by Davis must be music to the Ernie Hernandez vote-harvesting machine as they contemplate their involvement in the city commission elections and their intricate manipulation of the mail-in and vote-hauling in the early voting period. Will Davis even have an inkling of what awaits him?
And – if he proves incompetent to handle the upcoming test of fire – will he again call on Indispensable Roger to come out of his "retirement" and put out the fire, for a hefty fee of course. At $5,000 for a month, that equals out to $1,250 per week for part-time work. All you have to do is prove your incompetence, ignore massive voting fraud in front of your nose, and clear the way for the vote-harvesters to work unmolested.
Several protesters were ignominiously ignored by the majority of the commission and Cascos when they objected to the rewarding of Ortiz with the cushy gift. Mary Helen Flores, an activist with Citizens Against Voter Abuse (CAVA) said Ortiz should not be allowed to return given his dismal track record of disdain for the voice of the people. Her voice, like the others, was ignored by what can only be characterized as an imperious tone by Hernandez, who know that he and his vote-harvesting machine are the leading culprits behind the corruption of the county's and local election process.
Will Ortiz's tasks include answering the written questions posed by CAVA last October and dodged by Ortiz even after he promised he would answer them at least three times in front of legal counsel, the county judge, CAVA and others?
We wouldn't hold out breath.

If Ortiz answers those CAVA questions honestly, he will be implicating himself in election fraud crimes.

Ernie Hernandez and his sidekicks knew that Roger's reinstatement was a done deal, so why listen to the citizens?!!!

His main purpose for attending Thursday's commissioner's court meeting was to serve as "messenger", as he put it, to request a sweet $5,000.00 raise for his district's constable SECRETARY!!! LAP DANCES MUST BE GETTING EXPENSIVE BY THESE PERSONAL SECRETARIES!!!

$5,000.00 for Roger, $5,000.00 for the secretary....there must be a lot of money in county coffers!

Hey, how about throwing $5,000.00 my way! It's not too much to ask for, is it Ernie? How much for a HJ? you're too ugly for anything else....

Man, do we have some idiots as county commissioners including the county judge! So, we reward this worthless DWTS Roger Ortiz! Ortiz leaves his post in the middle of an election to go dancing and then fails to complete the reports that were due over a year ago? Chris Davis made a point to tell the idiots that voted for him that Ortiz FAILED to do his job! But, it sounds like Ortiz knew what he was doing? Ortiz is going to make $5K for doing what he was supposed to have done in the first place! The only one with any sense was Garza, who voted against it. As far as Dan (not important enough to attend) Sanchez, oh well? And, he wants to be county judge?

BISD CALLS SPECIAL BOARD MEETING TO ByBV--TERMINATE THOMPSON HORTON'S LEGAL CONTRACT AND TO HIRE INTERIM COUNSEL
The agenda item is by Otis Powers - let's see which law firm will be getting their payoff. Remember Escobedo has been unhappy with Thompson Horton's refusal to go along on all of his deals. Let's see if the vote is, Powers, Escobedo, Peña, and Chirinos.--

We just can't seem to be able to get rid of corruption....and the County Commission is looking totally inept, leaderless and unable to manage. Each elected official seems to be afraid that the Federal Ax is going to fall his/her way, but corruption continues. Did the Elections Committee not take action to insure an effective transition of that office....apparently not. Roger Ortiz cheated the public every time he cashed his county check....and now he is back..probably with no greater oversight than before. The County Commissioners seem to bungle along with little citizen concern. And, as we approach hurricane season, can we really expect these idiots on the County Commission to make effective emergency planning, if they can't deal with day to day issues. HUH????

IF THIS NEW GUY DID NOT HAVE THE EXPERTISE TO RUN THE ELECTIONS OFFICE....WHY IN THE HELL DID THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT HIRE THIS NEW GUYS WITH NO EXPERIENCE....I THOUGHT THE COMMISSIONER DID A 15 MINUTE INTERVIEW WITH THESE APPLICANTS....AND NOW WE'RE HIRING A CONSULTANT (ROGER) TO ....CLEAN UP THE MESS THAT HE LEFT!!!!! THAT OUR COMPLETE INCOMPENDANT COMMISSIONERS...I THINK WE AS VOTERS NEED TO CONDUCT OUR OWN INTERVIEWS....ON THE COMMISSIONERS....OR MAYBE BRING BACK OLD COMMISSIONERS AS CONSULTANT....TO HELP THE PRESENT COMMISSIONERS CLEAN THE MESS UP???????

Did you really think that Cascos was going to let Roger answer CAVA's Questions. Don't be silly. Cascos has a lot of secrets under that blanket that he does not want to escape, and if he had not given his support to this payoff contract to Roger some of those little secrets could have oozed out like puss from a boil. $5,000.00, HA! if Roger had wanted $10,000.00 Cascos would have jumped through hoops to get it taken care of. Remember, It is not Cascos money, but it is his reputation, the perception of his honesty and his get out of jail free ($5,000.00) card at the expense of the Tax payors.

With the exception of Chris Davis, all other viable candidates were interviewed by concerned county citizens. Mr. Davis did not make himself available to answer questions. A candidate's name was submitted for the election's committee consideration, but it was never even acknowledged!!! The deal was already made!!! THAT'S THE REAL HORROR!! THEY DON'T FEEL THEY HAVE TO LISTEN, MUCH LESS ANSWER TO US!!!
