COPS ON THE BEAT, BROWNSVILLE'S BEST OF THE PAST

(Ed'.'s Note: One of our three readers sent us this photo hoping the other two could help him identify the men in blue pictured above. "Brownsville's best...when cops were cops and Brownsville was a sleepy town...they were not so quick to arrest you," he wrote. "Today, the criminals wear ties. Who are they?" Does anyone know the men above or the year the photo was taken?)

Missing are the toothpicks out of the corner of the mouth and sunglasses. Most of today's BPD are so overweight, they couldn't blow the whistle. That old picture seems to indicate that those men were fit and ready to enforce the law.

Speaking of B'ville cops....does anyone know what Ben Reyna, former BPD Chief and former Director of the U.S. Marshall's Service does at UTB....besides riding around in a golf cart?????
What tasks does Julieta relegate to him and what is his expertise to be on the UT-RGV Transition Team.....he isn't a faculty member and neither is Irv Downing and other than polish Juliet's slippers, there is no evidence that Ben has ever done anything at UTB. The UTB members of the transition team are some of the best at carrying Juliet's water for her.

While looking at the photo, the first row, on the Right, the police officer with Sergeant strips is my uncle, Sergeant Luis Alvarez
