FOR ERNIE, HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL; B-TOWN NEXT MAYOR?

By Juan Montoya
Less than a month after he resigned in disgrace as Cameron County Pct. 2 Commissioner, Ernie Hernandez is now telling anyone within earshot that they haven't heard the last of him and hinting that he might be running for mayor of the City of Brownsville in 2015.
More than one person have overheard Hernandez boast at public gatherings and in private that he didn't consider himself convicted of any crime and that no one should count him out of the local political scene.
Hernandez, as we all know, agreed to resign his position as Cameron County Pct. 2 Commissioner in exchange for the Cameron County District Attorney's Office dropping seven counts of official corruption and allowing him to participate in the pre-trial diversion program on the eighth count of coercing a public official.
At the time of his sentencing, visiting district judge Federico Hinojosa warned Hernandez against saying he had not done anything wrong.
Hinojosa told Hernandez that he was “not to present himself to the public or media as not having done anything wrong.”
“I stepped out of bounds,” he told the local daily after his sentencing.
The indictment of Hernandez said he had pressured Cameron County’s Chief Emergency Officer and Homeland Security Director Humberto Barrera to re-open a gambling establishment that Barrera’s department had closed.
At a recent political gathering to support the candidacy of Democratic Party U.S. Senate hopeful David Alameel, participants overheard Hernandez say that he is considering running for mayor to replace Mayor Tony Martinez. It is widely speculated that commissioner Rose Gowen is Martinez's anointed successor. But, said our sources, Hernandez said he would have the upper hand in a contest with her because "I know a lot of secrets about her."
The Alameel campaign function took place Monday night at Cobbleheads night club.
According to the court proceedings, Hernandez was to enroll for one year in a pre-trial diversion agreement, and refraining from consuming alcohol or drugs.
Additionally, he must participate in drug and alcohol counseling, submit to random drug testing, maintain employment and perform 125 hours of community service within six months or donate $1,000 to a charity within 120 days. Hernandez may not own or possess a firearm and must remain in Cameron County unless given authority to leave from the pre-trial diversion program. He is also prohibited from committing any other offenses during the program.
If he complies with all the restrictions, the charges may be dismissed April 30, 2015.
If not, the court will record a plea of guilty to the coercion charge and he will be convicted of a Class A misdemeanor.
His attorney John Blaylock at the time said Hernandez chose to plea because it would have been an “ugly trial.”
And District Attorney Luis V. Saenz said the outcome was a victory for his Public Integrity Unit.

“The state is pleased with Hernandez’s admission of guilt and his immediate resignation,” Saenz said in a statement. “He admitted to using his position to coerce a county employee into giving a certain illegal eight-liner establishment favorable treatment.”
The dismissed charges include two counts of abuse of official capacity, one count of misuse of official information, two counts of tampering with a witness, one count of tampering with government records and one count obstruction or retaliation.
It is widely believed that Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos will determine who will replace Hernandez on the commissioners court depending on the outcome of the runoff for Pct. 2 commissioner between Alex Dominguez and Leonel Lopez.

You see why you should have chopped off this snake's head, Luis Saenz? Do you see why you should do your job prosecuting public corruption crimes? Let's hope Norma and Erin end up in prison before Ernie tries any more of his scams on this city.

If this son of a bitch runs for any office again -- and God forbid, wins -- Saenz will be held accountable next election! Letting this mofo get away with abusing his office and the public is a disgrace and another stain on our justice system. Hernandez may not have killed anyone but there's little difference between him getting a free pass from this DA and the last DA letting Amit Livingston walk: They both let guilty scummy bastards walk. Hernandez is YOUR Amit Livingston, Saenz!

The dem party lets him go to their functions. Nothing is changing.

Cascos intends to appoint Adela to the Commissioners Court. Place vacated by Hernandez. Adela a staunch Republican is a favorite of the litter. The Republican Party as we know it now is Hostile to Humanity and Women too.

Brownsville deserves Ernie Hernandez as mayor. This city has accepted corruption and done nothing. This city has failed to take any public action to stop the self-serving activities of the city commission and so they deserve Ernie Hernandez as mayor. Maybe there is a way to get both Ernie and Erin elected to the city commission....Brownsville deserves them.

Who was the worst mayor before Pat Ahumada (el camarada y top commentor de Jim Farton)? It was Pat Ahumada the first time he was elected.

If Pat Ahumada was able to get re-elected, anything is possible in Brownsville. The odds are bad for Ernie but the few people who vote estan bien pendejos. Without the politiqueras I doubt Ernie can pull it off but he doesn't need a win to win. He just needs to run to raise cash for his "campaign" and he's good. It's free money and that makes any Hernandez salivate more than Pavlov's dog when he hears the bell.

“The state is pleased with Hernandez’s admission of guilt and his immediate resignation,” Saenz said in a statement.

THIS IS TORO-CACA. THAT'S ALL THE STATE DID AND LET THIS CRIMMINAL GET AWAY WITH HIS UNETHICAL PRACTICES AND ABUSE OF POWER.

He's probably laughing it off and using Arnold's Scharztengger's famous words, "I'LL BE BACK".
