To determine the Most And Least Educated Cities In America, financial site WalletHub took a look at the 150 largest metros in the U.S. and ranked them according to nine weighted metrics, including percentage of adult residents with a high school diploma, associate’s degree, graduate or professional degree, or above; number of doctors per capita; percentage of workers with jobs in “computer, engineering, and sciences fields;” quality of public schools and universities; and the number of students enrolled in the top 200 universities in the U.S., per capita.
“Research has shown that skilled workers who are also degree holders tend to pump the most money into their local economies over time,” states the report. At the low end of the spectrum, Beaumont, Texas, ranks as the least educated city in America, with one of the lowest percentages of bachelor’s degree holders as well as graduate or professional degree holders, and one of the lowest numbers of doctors per capita.
On the worst end Salinas, California, comes in second with one of the lowest numbers of doctors per capita, followed by Rockford Illinois. Brownsville, Texas, comes in third with one of the lowest percentages of degree holders at nearly every level, and one of the lowest percentages of residents with computer, engineering, and science jobs. Modesto, California, rounds out the bottom five.
At the other end o
On the opposite side, Ann Arbor tops the list, not only as the city with the best educated population, overall, but as the city with the highest percentage of “college-experienced adults or associate’s degree holders,” the highest percentage of bachelor’s degree holders, and the highest percentage of graduate or professional degree holders.

Just wait until SpaceX gets here, though. Then we'll show them a thing or two, right?

This is total bullshit. Brownsville is number one. There is not way Beaumont is stupider than Nacoville. We have 43% illiteracy rate.

Hahahah from students, to politicians both human species are very much the same. Students don't follow schools rules, and politicians do the same both humans later complain and ask for forgiveness. Another day, another triumph for those little babies that are corrupted.

Brownsville has A LOT of medical doctors (everywhere you turn there are specialists to treat the elderly and those on welfare), people in the hospitals, the school district and the banks need to have at least a B.A. to have at least a fairly good salary for this area. Brownsville DOES NOT have the maquiladoras that Matamoros has so therefore engineers or architects either work independently or work at the good paying administrative maquila jobs on the other side of the border. BISD is losing the "bright minds" to schools such as IDEA or Harmony Science Academy or Med High. When these students graduate from high school they go to top universities and end up staying up north or in other states instead of comming home because there is nothing to come home to. TSC is losing students to Kaplan College, South Texas Vocational Technical and other schools that filled the gap left by the old TSC when it became UTB-TSC. Our local politicians spend time fighting over assets that belong to our city (local tax payers), pay large amounts of money to get a little plaque with nothing but words "All American City", instead of bringing to Brownsville a Sony plant, a toyota or any other type of plant. Oh, I forgot, they expect Space X to be the savior of the city and besides, they let Matamoros keep the manufacturing plants.
One of the things I noticed in that list is there are A LOT of cities in California mentioned. Are they just as much "burros" as Brownsville is supposed to be?
"Mal de muchos, consuelo de TONTOS".

The reason fishing, the plastic bag ban and zumba don't matter is because the survey measured education not quality of life.

Finally Brownsville beats mcallen !

If Cameron County's political whore Sylvia Garza Perez moves away, we'll improve by leaps and bounds. If the Hernandezes move away, we'll become the smartest city in the world. Do us a favor, pendejos, move away!

I laughed when I read some comments commenting on literacy, but the anon's typed some words incorrectly. It works better if you type correctly when making fun of people who can't read or write.

Anyway, to the anon that is trying to be proud of Brownsville by typing "every where you look there are medical doctors," talking about IDEA, and etc. You really need to understand how these tests are conducted. For one, Brownsville is a cease pool of medical professionals because we're a cease pool of medicare and medicaid recipients, this is to say there's a lot of money to be made on insurance. You're safe if you have a associates or even a certificate in nursing and the like, but not if you have, say, a bachelors in engineering and science. The test, even counting in the doctors of Brownsville,s still shows that Brownsville has a lower amount of people with degrees than without. Giving your personal verdict on what you see holds no ground.

The only way things will change is if we change our mentality as a people, because if we don't, the resources, what very little we have, will mean nothing. We as a people need to be proud of ourselves and stop belittling our culture and people - i.e Nacoville and Mezican needs to go.
