Less than a month after former Cameron County District Attorney's Office PIO Melissa Landin announced she was all gun-ho to make Harlingen the vaction spot of the world – as she said she would SPI and Downtown Browntown – she has posted on her Facebook page that it has proven all too much for her frail constitution.
Landin, who left Luis V. Saenz's shop to become Harlingen PIO, quickly worked her way to be the city's executive director of their Convention and Visitor's Bureau. After a taste of her management style, a longtime staffer at the HCBV decided she would have none of it and left. That left the staff shorthanded, but Landin assured her pals at the Valley Morning Star that she was up to the job.
Landin hired Rachel Diana Flores at a salary of $37,000 to serve as the bureau’s first marketing manager in more than a year. Flores’ duties will include media relations, media buying and press release writing, Landin said.
Landin believed Flores’ hiring would fully-staff the department for the first time in about two years.
But she spoke too soon. Esmeralda Martinez, the bureau’s events coordinator, turned in her retirementjust just a day after Landin made the announcement.
Well, apparently being the linchpin for Harlingen's dream of becoming the paradise spot of the Valley proved all too much for Landin. Two weeks after flores' hiring (and Martinez's departure) the very public lady posted a selfie on her Facebook Page with her hubby after being hospitalized for what she said doctors diagnosed as "early warning signs of a stroke" and said she was going to "slow down" for her family's sake.
Someone said that her city health insurance had probably already kicked in and that it made it easier to "slow down" on her job.
So much for "working aggressively to market Harlingen" and draw tourism to help fill city hotels, or as they like to say in that industry "put heads on beds."
Well, now that Girl Dynamo's head herself is on a bed, Brownsville boosters may heave a sigh of relief that the torrent of tourists to the City of the Hill will now slow down to a trickle without her.

Can't believe how many people Melissa has fooled. She is not a smart person, but she has fooled many. She is a fraud and hasn't done much for anyone she has worked for.

I know to vote for Dan Sanchez thanks to your excellent reporting,
but what about all the other local races ? Like JP's, etc.
I never vote early, as sometimes the big shoes don't drop until the day before election day. Any big shoe's getting ready to drop now?

Juan, you're a terrible person. I don't know what Melissa ever did to you to deserve this level of obsession, but you need to build a bridge and get over it. Only someone like you would think that someone caring about their health and well-being is working an angle. Only someone like you would think that they should just push through the early warning signs of a stroke. Seriously. Maybe you need Jesus. Or therapy. Or something. But really, you're an awful human being, you bring nothing productive to public discourse, your seven readers are worse off for having read this tripe, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Hmmm, two people retire or quit? Only means one thing, Melissa Landin is a micro-manager or a real bitch and doesn't know how to manage or speak to employees. But, I know that she is a good ass kisser and has no problems getting on her knees. Has she resorted back to that to get a position? She is married and that won't make a difference when she wants something. Stroke? Maybe the pressure of causing two employees to leave or the pressure from city hall is too much for her? Boswell and his cronies expect ass kissing or getting on your knees, no matter what to get what they want for the Establishment. Melissa, welcome to all white Harlingen with jaibas behind them.

Harlingen has no idea what she is doing. She talks a good game and listens to other people ideas and repeats them. She's not dumb by no means but she has no leadership experience and less management experience. When she worked for other cities she made everyone that worked there a living nightmare. When Melissa worked for Luis Saenz everyone there was afraid of her. They never spoke freely with her about anything because she would turn around and use it against them. Luis Saenz would force people to say hi to her because she would go crying to him that his staff hated her causing her to be unproductive. Now she's is getting people not liking her in Harlingen,TX. The staff are either quitting or retiring. Why? Simple NO ONE LIKES MELISSA. Harling we thank you for taking this headache from Brownsville, TX.
I need to get more involved with city politics.
