WILL UTRGV BLAME TSC FOR ACCREDITATION PROBATION?

EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s accreditation is under probation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
The university will remain fully accredited throughout the 12 month probation period in which they are expected to work with SACSCOC to solve some issues, UTRGV President Guy Bailey explained.

Accreditation is a process in which academic peers set standards and evaluate institutions to help students – and potential employers – choose reputable colleges.

“While we are disappointed in the probation, we’ll work fully with SACSOC to rectify the issues,” Bailey said.
The university is expecting to receive further details regarding the agency’s decision and expectations by mid January, as not a lot has been made public.

But in an internal memo sent out Tuesday, Bailey said some of these issues stem from timing constraints in the creation of UTRGV, which, according to legislation, had a start-up date of Aug. 31, 2015.

Who are these accrediting agencies and from whom do they receive their mandate? The seem to have taken on a life of their own and have become self-perpetuating agenda-driven entities. There was no onsite visit or self-study with UTRGV, but, somehow, they are already on probation. Something is amiss here. These accrediting agencies can destroy a fledgling university such as UTRGV and seem to be looking for a technicality to do it.

Of course the current UTRGV administration hailing from the former UT Pan Am will blame both UTB and TSC. However it was their own arrogance that brought this on. They got cited for Rule #1--Integrity because they have been lying to the public and students all along. (See reasons for probation: http://www.utrgvrider.com/faculty-senate-to-meet-with-bailey-on-probationary-status/)

UTRGV has claimed to the public and their students to have been formed from a “merger” between UT Pan American and UT Brownsville. But, when timing issues with accreditation policies and processes interfered with their plans to start the newly merged UTB by Fall 2015, administrators took it upon themselves to do whatever it took to make it appear as if the institutions had actually merged. SACSCOC has prescriptive procedures for institutional mergers. Since timing wasn’t on the side of the all-powerful UT System (who always claimed they had “6 floors of lawyers” that would get them find loopholes to get to their desired end), they decided to make their own rules. They first officially changed the name of UT Pan American to UT RGV, then they “administratively” transferred thousands of UT Brownsville students to UT Pan American without the knowledge of the students—a violation of federal requirements. (See the name change of UT Pan American to UT Pan American: http://www.sacscoc.org/pdf/NameChangeCrossReferenceList.pdf ). The UT System believes they are too big and powerful to not get what they want.

Thanks again Adela, Kiko, Trey and Rene: we will not forget you and the damage you created. It's been a few years and many don't remember your actions which started this very unexpected mess.

They better fix all these problems or Brownsville will not have a University, as it is, everything indicates Edinburg is taking all the good stuff to their campus, just look at the Center for Gravitational Wave Study Center, a real research center like a very few in the nation and they are trying to take it away. The Brownsville campus has best kept secrets that bring the multi-million dollars to the University and they want to dig into that and leave Brownsville with remedials.
