TRUMP DISSES CIVIL RIGHTS ICON LEWIS, DISGRACES MLK DAY

Today, January 16th the nation celebrates the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday (Jan. 15) and honors his commitment to nonviolent activism to unite all people and protect their freedoms. Marching with King was civil rights icon John Lewis (far right) now a congressman whom US President-elect Donald Trump called him "all talk — no action" after Lewis said Trump was not a "legitimate" President, CNN reported.
"Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results. All talk, talk, talk — no action or results. Sad," Trump tweeted on Saturday. Trump made the remarks after Lewis told NBC in an interview that the Republican would take office as an illegitimate President, citing the US intelligence community's allegations that Russia interfered in the election to harm his Democratic Party rival, Hillary Clinton.
The 76-year-old Lewis — who spoke at the 1963 March on Washington, where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech — said he would not attend the presidential inauguration for the first time in his 30 years in Congress.

MLK is an icon. John Lewis is an icon. Trump is a con man.

Don't worry. Brownsville will celebrate by littering the old cemetery with Confederate flags soon.

Not a trump supporter, but at one point we must acknowledge that fact that trump is the president elect. The time has come to move on, the election was over back in November of 2016.

Just what the hell is an "icon" anyway. It would appear to be some politician, who did some worthy decades ago and been trading on that ever since. They have no earned their keep in several generations. Rep. Lewis and Sen. McCain are two that come to mind.

Thank you gents for what you did, but you need to move on and give the space to somebody who will do something positive with the office.

Lewis isn't helping any. Its the 2nd time he doesn't attend a Presidential Inauguration.

Its not a Republican Inauguration, Its the President of the USA inauguration. Like it or not. Thats our system. Don't like it? Go to Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador.

Still don't like it? Try changing it - get rid of electoral college and go with "voto por voto" but sitting out 2 inauguration won't help your cause one bit.

Suggesting that we go to another country is ridiculous. This is our country and we're going to continue holding this new president accountable. We'll start by boycotting his inauguration.

LOCAL UTRGV students celebrated MLK day by CLEANING, PAINTING and fixing graves at the old city cemetery as part of their service to the Brownsville community. Please INFORM YOURSELF before YOU litter and offend.

If Martin Luther King was alive today, he would despise Obama for his dismal performance as the first black president of the US.

Can anyone tell me (without resorting to blame local leadership for all its problems) why Brownsville isn't like El Paso? San Diego? etc.?

Id like to hear an answer with more meat on the bone other than "our local leaders, this and local leader that" theres a reason and underlying issue and Id like to hear from all of you.

It takes 2 to tango.
