AHUMADA CALLS OUT MAYOR MARTINEZ ON CASA DEL NYLON

(Former Mayor Pat Ahumada could have been an excellent muckraking journalist. It is a journalist's job to point out the problem, not resolve it. Ahumada took it one step too far. As mayor, he thought he could find solutions. That's not a journalist's job. Here's Ahumada at his editorial best blasting his successor, Mayor Tony "Mierda" Martinez.)

By Pat Ahumada
Former City of Brownsville Mayor

I read a March 22 news article titled "New Home" regarding La Casa de Nylon's renovation for a Fire Department facility, which makes uses of the property that has been vacant for years losing tax revenue and incurring cost to maintain.

The mayor ignored the appraisal district's $600,000 market value assessment when he pushed the building's $2,3 million purchase, ignored that the appraisal being relied on had been rejected two years prior and that it was now obsolete.

He ignored that the appraisal did not rely on typical competing retail properties similar in location and size as La Casa de Nylon, which discredited the value reported and was the reason the appraisal report was rejected when I was mayor.

It is a known fact that dowtown properties sell for pennies on the dollar, especially during the Great Recession of 2008-2011. No bank would have accepted a two-year-obsolete appraisal report or financed La Casa de Nylon, but the city did.

Compare La Casa de Nylon to the Mercantile Bank purchase with more land, parking and building space for the same price.

The City Commission now proposes to convert La Casa de Nylon into a fire training facility in a retail district, which is not in conformity with the land use and traffic density.

The city justifies putting more money into La Casa de Nylon because it spends $130,000 to send 19 firefighter cadets to Houston for training over a two-year period.

The city says it can save $70,000 by training them at La Casa de Nylon site, but it will take 123 years to recoup the $4.3 million invested, which includes the $2 million to convert the building to a fire training facility and assumes 19 firefighters are needed every two years.

Does the city need to be in the real estate and fire training business?

A commenter on another site described Ahumada as "Super-Pendejo." About right is what I say. Pat needs to go underground. Too early for next mayor's race, Pat! Cabron!

Already three commenters and none of them countered any of Ahumada's points. Classic ad hominem attacks, when you cannot counter an argument go low and attack the messenger.

Not even an attempt to counter his position that the La Casa del Nylon purchase was a losing proposition designed to enrich a certain someone.

Casa Del Nylon will double its value in 10 years. Brownsville wins! Ahumada is just an old bitter fuck. Siddown, Pat!

Ricardo Longoria is right ....coming from Ahumada is bs for sure

Any comment Pat Ahumada makes against the current Tony Martinez administration gets my support. Tony and his cohorts have cost the tax payers millions of dollars, has failed to bring jobs to the city and has failed to bring us an ethical and transparent city administration. Tony Martinez has failed the city.

A vote for Villarreal, Munguia and Gowen is a vote for the Mayor. We need to maximize efforts to elect the right candidates this time around. Garza, Neece and Castro will be the right choices, lets give them the benefit of the doubt. We urgently need transparency, lets stop corruption dead on its tracks.

Pat is right, 100 % correct. The Browntown elite will always have their minions ready to attack anyone who opposes their supreme authority and right to spend taxpayer's money as they see fit. At least Pat has balls to sign his name.

you will know exactly why Blue Jean Mayor conned every city commish to
buy the useless building at such a profit to his friend. That is all
Pat needs to dwell on and for us people, the voters, to do something about it - those that actually vote - HA!

Anonymous attacking me shows he is weak, because he ignores the facts on how this administration perpetrated a fraud on the citizens of Brownsville and not only with the Casa Nylon, but with many other real estate purchases and deals like Imagine Brownsville and still continue to do so. Now, owing taxes that ismy business, I am not running for office and the tax collector has my property as collateral, so your attacks do not intimidate me. Atleast I stood for what wsa right and did what was right for our city the best I could. You anonymous continue to show yourself as the scum and coward you are. Know that when you look at yourself in the mirror and know that KARMA will come back to you, maybe through your own kids, but it will come back to you tenfold. I pray every night for my enemies and my God somehow takes care of them for me. Some are in jail and some are dying, which i hope to out live you to continue to speak out against the corruption that has taken over out city. The legacy this administration leaves behind is what you support, with Cabler being the worst city manager and corrupt, Pete Gonzalez the biggest dissappointment and corrupt, the mayor who does not practice his faith as shown by his actions and is corrupt, the commissioners who have committed the worst of all sins by going along instead of standing up for the citizens of Brownsville in exchange for a few pieces of silver. A few pieces of silver, meaing they get what they want and the city manager and mayor get what they want. So, Annoymous, remember me when you see your self in the mirror that I am the opposite of you, i stood for something. You are nobody as the Anonymous name indicates. LOL!

Anonymous said...

Pat, I used to respect you until I read your last comment. If you are calling Mr. Pete Gonzales, corrupt, then you are totally not in your right mind. This gentleman, yes, gentleman, is the only person in the city government does things by the book and with data to prove it. He does not beat around the bush and unfortunately, is ordered to do things that I am sure are not up to his values. Pat, deep down you should know this about Mr. Gonzales and shame on you for attacking him for doing his job, especially in reference with the check incident you were involved with some time back. Check yourself, Pat! You owe Mr. Gonzales an apology!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Pat don't pray every night.... you drink every night

While I agreed with Mr. Ahumada on some issues, he totally missed the boat with Mr. Pete Gonzalez. If anyone down at city hall is honest, hard working and responsible person is Mr. Gonzalez. Mr. Gonzalez is also a decorated Vietnam veteran, an honorable man who has worked for the city for almost forty years. So Mr. Ahumada, if you don't have anything nice to say about him, leave him alone.

How dare Pat to attack Mr. Pete Gonzales! I agree with two previous comments when it comes to you owning Mr. Gonzales a verbal and written apology. Mr. Gonzales is the epitome of an true honest and God-fearing man who respects his job and his responsibilities to the fullest. If there has ever really been a true gentleman, it would have to be Mr. Gonzales. You nor anyone else should ever classify him with the rest of the corrupt officials at City Hall. Maybe it is time for Mr. Gonzales to enjoy his retirement benefits and leave that cesspool behind, because he has no business in the middle of such personal agendas. Now! I DEMAND AND APOLOGY FROM YOU TO MR. GONZALES.
