ALL NEW STUFF FOR BIKE-HIKE TRAIL: AND BUS SHELTERS?

(Ed.'s Note: One of our seven readers noticed that there were new trash receptacles and benches along the bike and hike trails and wondered why people like the lady above waiting for the bus were not provided with the basic bench and shelter to use what passes for mass transit in the city of Brownsville. It's easy to see that the priorities at City Hall are somewhat disconnected from the needs of may of our residents.)

This disparity reflects the disconnect between the city commission and the citizens of Brownsville. The hike and bike trails are used by Rose Zavaleta Gowen and others who live in Rio Viejo and have the time and money to "work out". The lady on the left reflects that part of the citizens that Rose cannot relate to and cannot effectively represent. Too many people like Rose don't understand or appreciate the need for buses....Rose has probably never been on a bus in Brownsville. So, the city money and resources go to the folks that she can relate to.

Low lives, run city hall, poor lady, in the heat and sun, and not a place to sit. Mendigos.

The state of our current situation in Brownsville said...

You hit the nail right on the head. The people the commissioner does not represent did not step up and vote against her. The electorate of Brownsville is to blame, but also the commissioner for turning a blind eye to the needs of her constituency. That is part of being a commissioner, is it not? Representing and meeting the needs of the citizenry of Brownsville?
I did not and have never voted for Gowen. She represents everything that is wrong with Brownsville. ELITISM.

The problem with our city commishs is that most of them did not grow up in the barrio. They do not know what it is to not own a bike, not having a car to get into town, where their daily workouts were washing clothes con el labador en in bano and cleaning the yard outside.
We didn't have the money they did, like the Zavalettas who worked people to death and paid them squat, but no le pedimos nada a nadien. We made do with what we had and went to public school with holes on the bottom of our shoes, but we went "a pata" an not even dream about driving a car to school. So how can anyone expect these "fresas" to understand this lady having to squat under the bus stop sign to get some sort of shade. Pero we have bicycles at the parks that are not even used. One who knows a Zavaletta, knows what I am talking about, so tirenlos a loco - lo que son - locos con dinero.

Buses are good for the environment and good for people. They help us get around without a car, can transport many people, timely and without paying for gas and have bike racks in front so you can take longer bike trips to the island and further, never needing the expense or liability of a car. I completely support our trails and our buses. Good things are in store for the bus stops too I'm sure. These are good for our community all around and everyone knows that.

To people like Rose, the lady on the left is second or third rate, not deserving of basic human amenities one would expect a municipal government to provide for the people of that locale.

The municipal government has the priorities all screwed up. Street maintenance, drainage, public transportation are the least of their worries. On the other hand, bike lanes, Cyclovias and a subsidized golf center are top priority, leaving the most needed to fend for themselves. What a shame of leadership.

Rose, in one sense, is no different than Obama...both self-centered and only inspired about their legacy. The "Tour De France" want-to-bees are enjoying the ride... while the tax payers are standing on the sidelines watching the wheels going round and round...

I want to bee.

I saw a "new" bus stop on Central Blvd, rather basic, but functional.

hey are bees tax payers?

looks like bees want trails so they go and vote for someone who'll give them trails and tax payers who want bus shelters dont go out and vote for someone who'll give them bus shelters
