DID SAN BENE PROBE REALLY CLEAR P.D. CHIEF GALVAN?

SAN BENITO — An investigation has cleared Police Chief Michael Galvan of any wrongdoing in connection with his privately recorded conversations that were leaked to the public.

An outside law enforcement agency found Galvan violated no laws when he recorded nearly 500 conversations that were later downloaded from the police department’s computer system, Mayor Ben Gomez said yesterday.

“There was no wrongdoing,” Gomez said. “There was not anything there.”

Gomez declined to disclose the name of the outside law enforcement agency which investigated the matter.

The city plans to issue a press release regarding the investigation’s findings, Gomez said.

Galvan could not be reached for comment yesterday.

In late May, commissioners launched the investigation after Galvan’s recordings were downloaded from the police department’s computer system.

Nearly 500 recordings were apparently downloaded from a public server at the San Benito Public Library and distributed to individuals.

The recordings apparently focus on conversations. Topics include police officer cases and citizen complaints.

Meanwhile, Officer Guadalupe Andrade said her attorney will determine if she will continue to pursue a sexual harassment case based on a conversation between Galvan and former Police Chief Martin Morales.

In a May 31 letter to commissioners, Andrade wrote the recent disclosure of Galvan’s private recordings show Morales agreed to dismiss her sexual harassment case to protect Galvan about two years ago.

Galvan’s recordings apparently reveal an hour-long conversation with Morales in which Morales agrees to “keep it to himself and that no one needs to know” and “this could blow up in our faces and ruin our careers and positions,” according to Andrade’s letter.

If one was to video record Rene Oliveira at cobbkeheads as he drinks massively, one would see a man staring like a creep at all the women's body parts. Then one would realize he is a pig

No to Rene Oliveira. He is a bad man. He destroys families

Get rid of lucio and oliveira. Their services are no longer needed

What language is this in?

I beg to differ.
There's a difference between destroying a marriage and destroying a "family".

But why do they refuse to say which agency did the investigation or show proof....... Hmmmm? This story was made to brush away the news media. WELL you better hang on cause more is coming your way. And to the editor Mr. Del Valle.... come on?? Your smarter than this..... ask for the proof. They handed you the shovel and pick axe on this story and you just sitting there with a small hammer in your hand. SMH

We must have the worse representation in Austin in comparison to the rest of the State. One , takes miney from oil/gas company to stay silent when citizens show concern and the other whi has done nothing for we the people, just sits in bar drinking heavily staring at women with no respect and destroying families with hus sex addiction. They are bad men

Bobby Wightman Cervantes is correct about McHales blog. McHale is paid to stay silent . mcHale s site is not fair or accurate. All credibility if lost with mcHALE. He is a bad man

What a bunch of hogwash. Why does the mayor not want to disclose the agency that did the investigation? Where is the final investigative report clearing the police chief ? Mr.Mayor where is the transparency that the citizens of san benito deserve ? Remember Mr.Mayor you work for the citizens that elected you into office NOT the city manager OR city attorney.

Mr. del Valle is a reporter and not an editor.

All politicians are the same once they are elected into office. They speak from both sides of their mouths.

The problem with San Benito is they either re-elect the same people over and over again or they elect inexperienced people to go through on-the-job training.

I HAVE BEEN IN THE POLICE COMMUNITY FOR ABOUT 30 YEARS AFTER JUST RETIRING RECENTLY AND HONORBALY AS AN OFFICER. HEARD ALOT ABOUT THIS CHIEF THROUGHOUT THE YEARS ESPECIALLY WHEN HE WAS A DETECTIVE FOR THE DEPARTMENT!!!! AT ONE POINT THERE WAS A MAYOR ISSUE THAT DEALED WITH HIS WIFE OR MAYBE HIS EX-WIFE NOW I THINK??? USED HIS OFFICIAL CAPACITY TO GET AWAY FROM SOME VERY SERIOUS DOMESTIC ISSUES...AND NOW THIS??? I GUESS HE IS AS BAD AS TEFLON REYNA WITH THE SO...BUT BOTH HAVE A TENDENCY OF NOTHING STICKING TO THE PAN!!!! I GLAD I'M OUT OF THIS COMMUNITY...NEVER LOOKED BACK AGAIN. I'M A SURVIVER OF THE BUSINESS!!!

You call yourself an honorable person, yet here your are making serious public allegations anonymously without an ounce of proof. We, the public, are supposed to take the word of somebody who is screaming (CAPS) without providing any proof. Enjoy your retirement.

According to the newspaper reports, only a few of the members of the police department signed the no confidence letter. It was not exactly unanimous as you would like. No proof of a cover-up has been released by the city. Why not wait until the report is released then if what you say is true, you can scream in large letters: I TOLD YOU SO.

Well looks like pobresito San benito is being run by the city manager and city attorney. Wake up mayor and commission and start doing the job you were elected to do.

WHERE IS THE SUNSHINE NEWSPAPER IN ALL THIS ?

No report of the agencies findings will ever be released. The city attorney when interviewed by the media said he was not at liberty to disclose the agencies that conducted the investigation. Okay Mr. city attorney who is at liberty to disclose that information ? Was there even an investigation conducted ? Something very fishy going on in San Benito.
