BOARD TAPS RODRIGUEZ FOR NEXT TSC PRESIDENT

By Juan Montoya
Jesus-Roberto-RodriguezWith all the members participating in the selection process, the board of the Texas Southmost College selected Roberto Rodriguez to be the next president of the community college after nationwide search.

The board went into executive session at 5:50 p.m. and emerged at 6:12 – 22 minutes later.

A board executive committee narrowed the search to four candidates and – after a series of public forums – the choice came down to two: Rodriguez and David E. Pearson.

Rodriguez's experience includes serving as the dean for the Business Center of Excellence at Houston Community College since July 2015 and dean for the Lone Star Community College System from February 2006 to July 2012. In between he worked at the Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, from August 2012 to July 2015.

Pearson – who was vice president of partnership affairs at the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College from 2006 to 2010 – is also a U.S. Army veteran and was the dean of the San Diego State University Imperial Valley Campus in Calexico, Calif., from 2010 to 2015.

Let us hope that Dr. Rodriguez brings a high caliber of ethics back to the community college where a lot of us got our start when it was really an educational institution and not a political stepping stone. I am proud to have received a scholarship to TSC when I graduated and made use of the resources offered me by teachers like Barbara Warburton, Nell Wayne Bennett,
Ruby Wooldridge, Frances Eacho, who actually taught the classes. When PAUB
came in we got some professors who would assign chapters to each one of us and they sat in the back of the room and actually fell asleep. I hope Dr.
Rodriguez has the guts to stand up and demand the best from the faculty so our students can remain in Brownsville without having to go into debt. Good luck to President Rodriguez and also, don't let the board micromanage you!

It was always going to be a Mexican!

I wish him well and hope the first item of business is to get rid of the canned courses and require the instructors to know the material and teach the courses.

The Gringo never had a chance. He was included in the short list just for show. Gringos need not apply to any public position or run for any office. They might as well be back in 1930 Alabama.

There may be a few like the Cowans, but they hide their Texas Ranger Great Great Grandfather Rip Ford deep underground. They play like they are Mexicans for business reasons.

A waste of time and taxpayers money to look all over the world when this guy was already hand picked before the vote by the board. TSC is in gutter of shit and there is no students in the neighborhood of 7,000 students. The TSC of the past had everything before the marriage to the UT system. Now the TSC boat has more shit to shovel.

Don't say TSC is in a "gutter of shit," bro. TSC will file a defamation lawsuit against you!!!!
