WHEELCHAIR-BOUND B'TOWN RESIDENT AND HIS BUDDY MAX

(Ed.'s Note: This morning we happened to be in the vicinity of Jefferson Street and Central Boulevard when we saw the pair above come wheeling out from behind a car wash along Central. It turns out to be a wheelchair-bound man and his pet dog taking their daily morning walk. The man said his dog's name was "Max" and that he was his best friend. As can be seen in the photo above, the man is an amputee.

Each morning, he said, Max leads him and his power chair along Central and they circle around Elizabeth Street to the south. Since there are no handicapper sidewalks or inclines for wheelchairs, Max leads the way to steer his master clear of obstacles and traffic. "He's not just my friend," he said. "Max is my buddy.")
