SOURCE: C.M. CABLER TO RESIGN AT TONIGHT'S CITY MEETING

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Heretofore reliable sources in the City of Brownsville say that City Manager Charlie Cabler will submit his letter of resignation at tonight's commissioner meeting, ending more than 35 years of working in the city.

His resignation comes at a time of controversy when the city is still reeling from the sudden firing of former city attorney Mark Sossi, the demotion of former Brownsville Fire Dept. Chief Carlos Elizondo amid calls for him to step down from the board of the Brownsville Independent School District, a continuous dissatisfaction over the delayed $500 million Tansaka power plant project that has raised utility bills by 35 percent over the past four years, the $2.3 million Casa del Nylon purchase for a friend of the mayor, and a commission that has felt it has to step in and do his job through the creation of budget, audit and agenda committees.

Today's surreptitious (and anonymous) release of electronic heavily-edited recordings targeting remarks by commissioner Cesar de Leon citing displeasure with his colleagues on the city commission could overshadow his reported resignation.

Cabler first worked in the Brownsville Police Department before becoming assistant city canager in 2002, and then served as Acting City Manager before being hired as City Manager on September 1, 2004.

His salary now stands at $220,000 with a $600 monthly car allowance.
The source did not say what reasons Cabler will cite for his reported departure.

Its about freaking time that man resigns his position. Nobody wants him as a city manager anymore. Bye bye compadrismo! Your time has come to an end and it aint pretty.

Done enough damage.
Hope the mayor follows his footsteps but with no true leadership in site, the saying of "Mas vale malo por conocido que bueno por conocer can apply here.

Question to you Mr. Montoya: Dagoberto Barrera's passing was totally ignored by you and all the other bloggers. Even the Brownsville Herald totally ignored his passing. I was NOT a fan or follower of the man; I considered him a bigot against his own race and yet his second wife was from Mexico (it said in his obituary). I do remember him standing on Price Road with the American flag supporting George H. and then George W. Bush, I know he spoke at commission meetings. Either he hated all of you or YOU all hated him so much that you ignored his death. What ever the truth being, he was a character that became part of our local culture in his own right.
Just a thought.

The closets in this town are deep and filled with carcasses. Charlie wants to stay in his closet.

I will never forget about the time he was supposed to bring salaries for city employees to fair market value by way of a one million dollar compensation study, and instead, that idea was thrown to the wayside while he turns around and gives himself a $50,000 dollar raise. WOW!!! So wrong...karma, thank you for doing your job.

About fking time let me guess he's going to get teary eyed when he says he was honored to serve the public. It should be honored to hide ,take, bully, turn the other way and bulge my pockets from the idiot tax payers of brownsville. The grandma with big appetite for the green mayor and Cabler are the worst thing to happen to our city. Then Look at Rick with his fake ass smile going say some bullshit like you were like a dad to me and thanks for covering up my dirt while you were here, fking pendejo.

Other than Caesar no showing, which may have been planned weeks ago, the most interesting thing was Presas-garcia during public comment without ever mentioning a name very nicely expressed how the city commission not enforcing its policies gives Brownsville the reputation of the most corrupt area in the state along with the rest of the LRGV. It was brilliant how she mixed it all in clearlyt attacking Elizondo without mentioning his name, and giving a solid reason for image purposes the city should enforce its policies. Everyone knows I am not a Presas-garcia supporter, but she was so spot on tonight. A very needed public comment. I hope they heard her. Like I said with me the good, the bad and the ugly. Tonight was excellent. Congrats Cata for a great public comment.

The city did implement the compensation study, but it only benefited a few employeees including some directors and of course, management. The compensation study was a total waste of money, most employees didn't get a pay increase. Another failure of true leadership.

Great job Catalina! We need you and more people like you back on the BISD Board!

This bastard isn't retiring...the city tits isn't completely dried yet. Juanito your sources are full of shit!

This man was part of a plan to remove your public EMS service and replace it with a private service owned by Elizondo &co., thereby lining both their pockets. This would have robbed the citizens of the benefits of a public service, such as government funding, resources, training, and accountability. Private services are a business and therefore only care about one thing: your money. They may smile and be unordinarily polite as they unwittingly give you subpar treatment, but you won't be smiling when you get the bill and an infection. Cabler doesn't care about your health, safety, or finances...just his own. The dominoes are falling one by one, and he is next.

You were a bad cop and a worst City Manager.

THERE ARE VOTES TO GET RID OF CABLER. THE NEXT FEW WEEKS WILL BE INTERESTING.

There WERE votes to get rid of Cabler until these recordings surfaced. You think anyone on the commission will still side with psycho De Leon and Neece? Good luck. Charlie is here to stay, motherfuckers!

NO USE IN CRYING OVER SPILLED MILK - BUT BROWNSVILLE JUST WASTED ABOUT 13 YEARS OF PROGRESS - THINK ABOUT THAT - 13 YEARS. THATS ALOT OF FUCKING TIME BROWNSVILLE RESIDENTS HAVE BEEN SCREWED OVER BY PATHETIC HIRIG BY COMMISSIONERS

NOW I HOPE ALL OF YOU SUPPORT THE FOLLOWING IDEA AND DEMAND THE COMMISSIONERS DO THE FOLLOWING:

- PERFORM A NATIONAL HEAD HUNT FOR THE BEST QUALIFIED CANDIDATE, BEST AND MOST EXPERIENCED AND EDUCATED - THIS CAN APPLY TO THE FOLLOWING:

CITY MANAGER -
GBIC CEO -
COMISSIONERS WILL BE DELT WITH AT ELECTIONS.

SEE YA.

The meeting has come and gone without the aforementioned resignation. The heretofore reliable sources were not reliable this time, and I suspect they have been burned with this false story. That is the way it is done, tell the suspected leaker a false story and see if it gets into print.

I do not know about Canker but Nerve through association has been hurt by this. If they recording can be authenticate cedar would do next by resigning now. If he knows there is more why damage himself more by staying in the public eye

Way to go Caty-girl! Some people are finally realizing that it is smart to get you back on the BISD board, where you told them so long ago, what was going on with those guys that always shut you up when you raised the conflict of interest point. they knew what they were doing but so did you but nobody paid attention to you. Maybe you should run for city commission but I think that we could use you better on the school board so you can control and identify all the goverance they are pulling within the district and threatening everyone with retaliation. It is a shame they do all this behind closed doors and that is the reason that those meetings are 3 0r 4 hours long as they stuff their faces and kill each other in the back room. Every single board member, maybe with the except of Cowen, have a real skeleton in their dirty stinky closet.

I hate auto correct on my phone - it should have said Cabler, not canker and Neece not Nerve

Cesar De Leon is an elected official and his actions will be dealt with at election time, however, the actions of Carlos and the failed actions of Charlie must be addressed immediately in the form of termination. obviously knowing Charlie deals have been cut by the present commissioners at the meeting. Am sure Charlie has the mayor, Longoria, the doctor in his pockets. I hope Neece, Mungia and Jessica do the right thing

Anonymous said...

I hope Charlie doesn't give these two pendejos the satisfaction by resigning. Both Neece and De Leon are worthless. I wouldn't vote for them to be damn dog catchers. No valen madre. Cesar, go back to Mexico and Ben go back to Congo, or wherever the fuck you claimed to have been abudected. You two would be doing this community a great service.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous at 3:07....Don't count on Mungia. Menso will chicken out again , just watch .

Anonymous said...

Those two may not be "smarter than the average bear" and it is a given that De Leon's words were not the best.

However, it is EXTREMELY clear that Elizondo was up to no good by recording this conversation. Legalities aside, it wasn't the right thing to do. Anyone can deduce as to why this "ace in the hole" recording was made.

Mexican politics? San Benito politics? Call it what you want, it sure has the appearance of a back-up / BLACKMAIL recording.

Cabler is not a bad guy. I have known him for a very long time. He can be a hot head as many of us are from time to time. Unfortunately, he got messed up with Elizondo and Elizondo's baggage.

I wish all involved in these tumultuous events and times, The very best. It is time to kiss, make up and move on! We don't have to like each other, but we should respect each other.

The sooner we get past these trying times, the better. Let's all get back to what the citizens have elected us or pay us to do.

Anyone ever hear of a "Confluct of Interest"?

You are right about San benito politics. What needs to happen is the san Benito police chief sneaky recordings need to go public. Then the city manager, city attorney, Commission and mayor will have answer very tough questions. But they will hide behind the o no that is a personal matter. O and the three ghost agencies that investigated the recordings.

Can't say I have.

I would bet on Munguia before I bet anything on worthless Jessica T or hippie Neece. Munguia is squeaky clean compared to those two criminal record holders.

Auto correct should delete YOU!

Nice write Up Caty about yourself. Long, unanimous comment suggesting you run for commissioner? Yep, looks like your long, long conversations just about NOTHING.
