De Leon should resign....IMMEDIATELY! He has dishonored the citizens of Brownsville, the entire city government, his profession and himself. His racism and bigotry cannot be condoned and an apology is unacceptable...he should show some backbone and resign NOW!!!!!

I am surprised that some of the liberals who write letters to the Herald haven't jumped on this disgraceful racist city commissioner....with both feet. The liberals, like the Herald...often speak loudly about actions in Austin or Washington...but here, where the "rubber meets the road", they seem mute to the racism and bigotry of this city commissioner. Regardless of the intent by the person who recorded this conversation....Cesar de Leon has proven that he is a bigot and a racist. Time for him to go....RESIGN. This sounds like a story about blackmail. If so, I commend DeLeon for his courage.
Also, DeLeon states in the recording that he knows better than to ever use the N word. But that these particular two ADAs had been disrespectful to his people and carried a view that all were just "wife beaters or "taco eaters". So yes, he would go ahead and call these two the N word because of the perceived disrespect and racism he had encountered in his dealings with them. If this is so, he should've used the R word.
This is a little bit different than calling any and all black people the N word which is always wrong.

There is no indication on the tape reported that he is being blackmailed and if he was, he should know he has the police chief at his disposal. You are trying to mitigate De Leon' s poor use of words, actions and lack of action to do what was right. The guys slurs and character is beyond redemption.
