UTB AND THE EXTINCT OCELOT MASCOT PUT TO REST

(It is kind of short notice, but "national experts" want your input on how to finally put a merciful end to UT-Brownsville and the endangered ocelot mascot, to participate in "mascot development" and to "shape the identity of UTRGV." The Brownsville "conversation" will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the UTB Grand Salon. Sackcloth and ashes are appropriate clothing for a wake.)

Just keep the same fucking colors, word mark style, mascot, the bronc.
Why have a big hoopla? You did not listen to the alumni the last time.
Your going to do what you want anyway. All of you, are a bunch of ass kissing, double talking, don't give a shit about anything but taking care of your future retirement accounts, if we are lucky to have them exist in this rotting economy.

LOL!! Garcia was forced out. What a dumb shit being led to her own slaughter. Systems, telling her lies until at the right moment, see you later. She deserved it, after they found out what a sack of shit sub human she was. They had to lie to her to get rid of her.

Any idea what these high faloot'n folks are costing to come down here to the most impoverished area of the United States and tell us what we should be thinking, and what we should be choosing for OUR mascot?

What is sad is the amount of money and time spent to create the Ocelot mascot and promote it for two years...

The Ocelot is far from extinct, they are all over Southern Mexico, especially in the Lacandon Jungle. What is extinct, however, is the late, great, "La Cacique".

Perhaps the fitting mascot should be in honor of Julieta Garcia....name the new mascot the "Ferrol Bitch" and give her any color that matches with the broom she flies.

I feed an Ocelot, comes into my yard at various times a week for a year now. It likes roasted chicken.

Uh guys.

When Montoya talks about the "extinction" of the Ocelot he is referring to the mascot not the animal itself. I find hilarious that the UT system is spending thousands of dollars on this fiasco. UTRGV is a campus with little or no sense of direction at the moment, when I spoke with a current UTB employee and asked him what is the status of the new university he said and I quote "I don't know, right now I'm not even sure if we are going to have a job in the next five years."

No one at UTB knows much of anything...only what Guy Bailey tells them---which is not much. Theoretically, no one knows whether he or she will have a job.

More than likely, UTB will be a satellite campus of UT-RGV, with the main campus in Edinburg at UT-PA.

Realistically, some faculty and staff are going to be needed for the Brownsville campus and those positions will likely go to current UTB faculty and staff. There is no pool of PhDs and trained staff waiting for jobs other than those already employed at UTB.

The number of UTB people to be "rehired" will depend on how many students can be expected.

The biggest advantage for UTB now is that TSC is so fouled up that students are opting to stay with UTB even for freshman and sophomore courses that are cheaper---in tuition---at TSC.

A problem at TSC---among many---is that faculty to teach its courses are hard to come by---and some of them come and go within a single semester.

TSC, like many community colleges, is using faculty with only masters degrees to teach courses, whereas at UTB, the faculty are predominantly PhDs (and experienced in teaching at the university level).

Unfortunately, even when UT-RGV gets off the ground, it will probably pay very low salaries to PhD faculty and to staff. The UT system is in no hurry to raise the compensation beyond the embarrassingly low salaries that Juliet Garcia's UTB paid.
