AND THE COUNTY JUST KEEPS ON GIVING, AND GIVING

By Juan Montoya
On the same agenda where Cameron County Commissioners Court is being asked to amend its 10-year tax abatement for the Tenaska-PUB $500 million, 800 MW gas-powered generating plant, they are also asked to pay for the renewal of the professional license for one of its employees.
Now, as far as we know , professional who must renew their memberships to their crafts or bar, in the case of lawyers, pay it on their own. Neither does the county pay for its medical personnel membership fees in the medical associations.
But the item on the agenda tomorrow seems to be a pro forma approval of a practice pertaining to surveyors.
The item, E on the Consent agenda, was placed there by county administrator David Garcia and pertains to the approval by the commissioners for the payment of the 2016 RPLS renewal license fee for county surveyor Daniel Orive.
Orive is also a principal in Orive Surveying, which does private work in the county.
According to the State of Texas RPLS renewal form, the cost to renew is about $179, not a great sum, but questionable when the individual has to use his license for his private business to begin with.
Cameron County, the gift that keeps on giving!

THEY SHOULD RESEND PRIOR ABATEMENTS (IF ANY) AND CONDITION ANY FUTURE REQUEST SUBJECT TO BEING IN PRODUCTION. HAVING STATED THAT P.U.B. SHOULD ALSO REVERSE THEIR RATE INCREASES.

And the "beat goes on"....the county doing what it has always done...REGARDLESS. "It's the way we have always gone it." seems to be the culture of Cameron County government. Change can be good...but our county government is not ready for "good".

They "give" because it's not their money.

Bisd and pub share a lot of similar interest. Why doesn't bisd have an energy conservation department that saves money in a conservative manner. Sensors on lights, programmable air conditioners, holiday crew to shut off computers and electronics that consume energy.
