CARLOS CASCOS, FORMER COUNTY JUDGE, SECRETARY OF STATE, DIES

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Former Cameron County Judge and Texas Secretary of State Carlos Cascos died today from an apparent cardiac event that caused him to lose control of his vehicle and crashed into a building in South Padre Island.

He was 71.

Cascos served as Cameron County Judge from 2007 to 2015 and Texas Secretary of State from 2015 to 2017.

He also served on the Texas Public Safety Commission and started his career as a Cameron County Commissioner.

He was an American Certified Public Accountant and was the state's 110th Secretary of State. He was appointed by his fellow Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and was confirmed by the Texas State Senate on February 18, 2015

Authorities have not released details of the incident which led to Cascos' death.

However, sources close to the family say that he suffered an apparent heart attack as he drove in South Padre Island that caused his vehicle to hit a building. No one else was hurt in the accident, they said.

No, please no.

Carlos Cascos a good man. A man that listened to his father and followed a good path.

Brownsville, take care of your good men. There are few.

What a lose to the community and to us, his close family. He was a man of honor, just like his father-in-law, Tony, who worked for the community. Candy is such a great woman and will surely miss her beloved Carlos, as will his children, but they have a great
legacy to follow. I know he rests in peace, for he was a peaceful man. Adios, primo, y nos vemos pronto.

Aside from Bush II, Cascos was the only other Republican I ever voted for. Oh, well, Maybe Ruvalcaba. Please inform us about his funeral services. Thank you.

Carlos was an irreplaceable asset to our community. I was proud to know him. Virtually alone amongst Valley politicos, his name was synonymous with integrity. Rest in peace my friend, you have earned it.
