WHY GUS REYNA FACED PUBLIC ON CHEATING SCANDAL

By Juan Montoya
Before the torch and pitchfork crowd start calling for the resignation of Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio over the termination of wight new-hire deputies caught cheating on the Civil Service exam and point to his noticeable absence during the press conference, consider this.
The sheriff, in fact, is in a much-deserved vacation in Europe with his wife at the invitation of Mike Leinart, his Chief Jail Administrator, and his wife.
The trip, by the way, was planned long before this scandal broke.
In fact, during a campaign pachanga for Judge Artturo McDonald and County Clerk Joe Rivera at the historical El Ranchito bar on Abrego Road at El Ranchito before the March Democratic primary, Leinart was telling a few of us about the trip they were taking.
According to the calaboose honcho – originally from ethnic-rich Detroit, Michigan, he had invited Lucio ad his wife on the trip across Europe. It was a trip, he said, that had been planned for months and that both couples were looking forward to.
We have received emails taking Lucio to task for not taking the heat personally, but these comments – in light of his planned vacation – seem a bit hysterical and a mite unfair.
After all, the responsibility for making sure the testing is on the up and up is that of the Human Resources Department, not the sheriff's.
Coming on the heels of the Roberto Cadriel illegal hiring and the shenanigans that got Pct. 2 commissioner Ernie Hernandez's administrative assistant Raul Salazar a 10-month jail sentence, the department has taken a black eye. In that case, prosecutors proved that a staffer at the department had been ordered to take the test for Cadriel after he failed miserably on the two previous tries. Then, after the dog-catcher job had been given to someone else, Cadriel was provided with a copy of the answers to take the test as a noncommissioned security guard with the county's international bridge system
We should note that all this took place under the watch of former HR acting director Robert Lopez, who quit soon after Cadriel's resigned. The current director Arnold Flores took over January 2013, and so far, the investigation into the deputies' cheating is said to go back a few months, perhaps years.
To blame the sheriff while he's out of the country seem a bit scurrilous and patently unfair to us, his age notwithstanding.

You can blame the sheriff no matter where the fuck he is, Juan. He is the man in charge and that's where the buck starts. You're redefining responsibility, something you are good at in your personal life.

What the fuck , Juan?

The sheriff was out of town when the news "broke", so therefore he's somehow not at fault for hiring less than ethical recruits and possible a non-citizen or two ? You must believe that a falling tree really DOESN'T make a sound if there's no one in the forest to hear it.

And your logic is a faulty as your calendar: Flores took over the HR job in Jan 2013.

THIS TOOK PLACE WHILE IN WAS STILL IN TOWN...DIDN'T IT??? THE CHEATING DIDN'T HAPPEN WHEN HE LEFT TOWN BUT IT'S BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM FOR MONTHS AND EVEN YEARS PRIOR TO THE PLANNED VACATION...IF HIS SECOND MAN IN CHARGE TOLD THE CITIZENS THAT AN ON GOING INVESTIGATION HAD BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME!!! NOT JUST THE SHERIFFS OFFICE BUT A JOINT INVESTIGATION WITH THE DA'S OFFICE??? SO THE BUCK STOPS WITH HIM THE SHERIFF...IT ALL HAPPENED ON HIS WATCH!!! THIS STORY WOULD NOT HAVE SUFFACED IF SOMEONE HADN'T SPILLED THE BEANS TO THE PUBLIC... GOOD JOB WHO EVER YOU ARE??? ANOTHER BLACK EYE,,,FOR CAMERON COUNTY.

Interesting that someone took over on a date that is months in the future.

the persons cheating on the test are the only ones to blame.. they are unethical and deserve to get put in jail, they have no business working for the county or any government agency. to blame HR. department or the director or any employee there is ridiculous...i feel sorry for the guy at HR cleaning up all the shit left behind by someone else ..the sheriff is a fault if he covered up for the deputies. he is Top Dog .. time to act like it ..

Most of this cheating happened last year and the Sheriff's office is really sort of late on taking this action. It is also possible that the Sheriff knew and planned the trip to be out of town when the announcement was made. Sheriff Lucio and his flunkies are likely just protecting him and themselves, because we know that Gus Reyna has his eye on that office one day and must protect himself from being found to be "corrupt".

Well, at least we didn't give the dumbass the $25,000 raise he was begging for.

The highest beef prices in almost three decades have arrived just before the start of grilling season, causing sticker shock for both consumers and restaurant owners — and relief isn't likely anytime soon. A dwindling number of cattle and growing export demand from countries such as China and Japan have caused the average retail cost of fresh beef to climb to $5.28 a pound in February, up almost a quarter from January and the highest price since 1987. Everything that's produced is being consumed, said Kevin Good, an analyst at CattleFax, a Colorado-based information group. And prices likely will stay high for a couple of years as cattle producers start to rebuild their herds amid big questions about whether the Southwest and parts of the Midwest will see enough rain to replenish pastures. Meanwhile, quick trips to the grocery store could drag on a little longer as shoppers search for cuts that won't break the budgets. Patrons at one market in Lubbock seemed resigned to the high prices, but not happy. "I quit buying steaks a while ago when the price went up," said 59-year-old La Feria resident Lenny Marroquin, who works at Pep Boys. He says he limits red meat purchases to hamburger, opting for chicken, pork and fish instead. Fellow resident Terry Obregon says she buys chicken and eggs now.

Lucio is looking for a fucking nursing in Europe, because he is so damn old. He doesn't remember, one day to the next.
And wasn't Gus Reyna retired, what did he do, kissed the sherrif's ass to get the job back. I remember when he was a politiquero in Norther Cameron County in a white dodge van, hauling old people to vote for Lucio.
Puro mamon.

Gus retired and is double dipping, plus word is that he has a drinking problem and even drinks at work just look at his face when he was giving the press conference and how stupid he sounded, he showed himself to act so childish by pointing fingers right away at the human resources department, I don't dough he knew all along what was going on. The sheriff's department has enough staff to conduct or help assist with their law enforcement testing versus the 4 person that human resources has for the whole entire county plus where is Arnold Flores nowhere to be found never in the H.R. dept to deal with the day to day problems but instead the 4 employees are the ones to take care of business the best as they can, word has it Arnold Flores always at the legal department and it has nothing to do with county business but that will also come to light sooner or later, and to Mr. Ernie Hernandez, I read the newspaper I read the Sunday's newpaper and this has nothing to do with your case you have been indicted and evidence and testimony have proof your are guilty so stop trying to take advantage of this situation to make you look innocent because you're not. the officials for the Cameron county are all corrupt it's time to clean house.

That's how it works around here pal...

People all you have to do is go by the HR office and find out if Arnold Flores is indeed the HR Director, well NO HE IS NOT he just assumed the position HE IS THE DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES he has no HR experience or knowledge, he was hired because his from the Hernandez clan they all cover up one another

The goal for the sheriff's office was to get ahead of this mess before it bit someone in the ass; as it did Ernie Hernandez. If these rookie deputies were to dumb to pass the test without cheating, they were probably too dumb to cheat without help. Who instigated the cheating....Reyna, the sheriff???? We need to keep our eyes open, these guys who "bit the bullet" for a corrupt sheriff's dept. are likely to be hired again later on.
