Like a bad dream, the recurring cycle of rain and potholes in Brownsville is...back again.
We have said in these cyber pages before that unless Brownsville gets serious about implementing a true drainage system, the street (pothole) problems caused when a good stiff rain comes along will be like a bad nightmare. They will simply return over and over again.
So it was today (Tuesday) after a nice thunderstorm swept through the city. The holes that appeared after last week's thunderstorms were duly patched up by Public Works crews. Then, today's rains simply washed away the loose asphalt onto the sreets and drains and the holes are back again. Tomorrow (or the day after) they crews will be back to put yet another veneer of asphalt and pitch over the holes and await the next rain. And so on, etc., etc.,
The photos in this post were taken before and after. They were taken at the same location, albeit from different angles. They are the same holes, however. You really can't blame the workers. They do as they are told. But does anyone else see the futility and waste of this system?
To get a handle on the problem, multiply this scene by hundreds of times all over the city. It's an incredible waste of resources and person power. And we will continue to repeat the same thing over and over and over again.
It looks like rain.

Boca Chica St. has been repaired CABILLION TIMES AND everytime it rains BOCA CHICA FLOODS.
ANOTHER PLACE is right accross from Dairy Queen (Corner of Coria and Boca Chica) the street has been fixed a trillion times and today after some sprinkle showers the orange cones were on the street detouring traffic.
WHAT A DISGRACE Y que descgraciados los commissionados.
It's easy to imagine a substantial chunk of the city's Public Works budget sluicing through the gutters and drainage ditches and out into the Gulf of Mexico. Then, next year, we'll do it one more time. This is professional municipal management?
