They waited for more than 24 hours at the annual Brownsville Police Department Christmas for Kids toy giveaway.
And in the end, children who otherwise would not have gotten a Christmas present walked away with a grocery bag full of toys and goodies.
Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia expected to give away more than 5,000 toys to needy children in the city, but judging by the lines that stretched around the police parking lot and down Sixth Street, he may have underestimated the crowds.
Garcia said local businesses and sponsors contributed generously to the drive. Charity contributions from bingo hall operators were also used by the department to purchase the toys.
The department handed out vouchers to parents who had to show some type of documentation like report cards, Medicaid forms or Social Security cards for each of their children.
The children didn't have to be on hand to pick up the vouchers.

This "expectation" is what has doomed the children of Brownsville. Getting shit for free sucks drive & ambition out of a life. Why do you make it seem as if it's normal?
