A CHILL WIND BLOWS INTO SOUTH TEXAS

By Juan Montoya
Our Snowbird friends are probably laughing at us as they see us hud
dled against the cold, but this latest cold snap is a chilling reminder that these "blue northerns" mean winter is bound to be around for a while longer.
After all, it is only January and until now the mild winter we've had almost make us forget what season we're in.
The talking heads on the airwaves have a habit of over dramatizing the
severity of most weather events, but there's no sense in taking stupid chances when a cold front like this one that has killed people up north is upon us. So bundle up the kids, cover the plants and bring in the pooch tonight and for the next few days until the snap breaks.
Even the Brownsville Herald is going native and recommending caldo, menudo and other local dishes to stave off the cold. It ain't news, but then again, it's new for the Herald to acknowledge the fact that the local population actually consumes what they see as novel enough to publish on their front page.
The photo accompanying this post was taken on Coffee Port road in Brownsville and gives the impression of people huddled against the cold or mourning someone at Guerra's Funeral Home.
