WHO DAT? WHY IT'S BRO JUAN WOOD!

By Juan Montoya
People are beginning to notice something about the John Wood for County Judge signs that sprouted all over the county.
They are all different. On some he appears to be a well-tanned southern squire wearing a casually open Arrow shirt.
On others he appears in black and white wearing a 'Fro. And in all of them, he appears to be slightly darker than he is in real life.
Could it be that John has some black in him?
"He looks like a brother," said a politiquero who specializes in promoting politicians every election cycle. "Why did he put up signs like that?"
Some of the more cynical observers say that Wood may be trying to blend in with the local colored folk (brown and black) to help his campaign against Eddie Treviño and Rebbecca Gomez. Treviño, obviously more Mexican-looking than Wood (also a lot shorter), is your typical Mexican-American (he says Spaniard), while Gomez makes no huesos that she is a typical in-your-face chicana through and through from Las Prietas, the tough West Side barrio. In fact, she basks in the fact.
But Wood has still has to make his bones trying to court the votes from the predominant Mexican-American electorate that customarily align with their ilk in elections.
Others say that the signs are just poor-quality, low-cost renditions that his frugal supporters (Sofia Benavides) got at a bargain price and contributed them to Wood as an in-kind political gift. But if Barack Obama turned out to be a relative of the new white Massachusetts senator, perhaps Bro Wood through some distant ancestor carries some black blood.
Bro! Wood's my dog!

Ya, guey. Vete a bailar El Bote. No Gringos, okay? Eh, como se escribe "Okay" en espanol? Ayudame, Juan! No te aferrez, leopardo.
