MASSO'S SURE SIGN OF "PROGESS"

By Juan Montoya

Just when we thought the news value of political signs had diminished, someone pointed out that the signs posted around the Brownsville Navigation District jurisdiction by incumbent board member Carlos Masso as the astronauts said "had a problem."

That problem, like Eddie Rodriguez's missing "for," was the misspelling of the word "progress" in his slogan.

It is spelled "progess" instead.
It's bad enough that Masso is a lawyer in a well-known law firm in town and is also head of the white-collar crime unit at Armando Villalobos' Cameron County District Attorney office.
He may well be committed to real progress, but surely someone (the candidate) read the signs before approving their printing and accepting the work from the printer. Think about how many eyes reviewed the work before the crews were sent out with hammers and masos to nail them down in choice corners and residence yards.
Given the fact that Masso had a hand in approving the agreement between Dannenbaum Engineering and the BND over the $15 million in unjustified payments made to the firm, we wonder if perhaps he merely skimmed over the fine print on the document before he signed on the dotted line and the taxpayers ended up with nothing in return for the bond money for which they will pay for the coming two decades.
Evetn though he might not have had a hand in it, we wonder whether Masso knew of the move by his boss to wrangle a cool $1 million from Dannenbaum in return for dropping the matter and not pursuing prosecution in the scandal.
But yet, the other commissioners thought so much of Masso's eye for detail and his leadership qualities that they voted him board chairman. Now, is that real "progess" or not?

The BND asking for federal funds? They Board members should be ashamed of themselves, they could not even keep track of the $21 million that Dannenbaum Engineering Corp. magically disappeared.

To top it off they chose not to pursue any legal avenues open to them to try to recoup the $21 million. Any further litigation would have toppled former board members and of course we could have none of that.

Attentamente:
Mojo Jojo

I guess I missed that one when I looked at the proofs for my signs. That was my mistake. At least my signs are not in violation of the election code. My opponent failed to include the "for" before the position she is seeking and she failed to include the "right-of-way" notice. Let's see you do a story on that.
