I appreciate the detailed comment, Dr. Zavaleta, wherein you defeated your argument in the first few lines where you said a community college exists when you have affordable education.
In fact, affordable education does not exist at $1000+ ($300/credit) per class and an outrageous menu of fees.
My illustration of the nurse trying to improve is a real person too, but I am positive there are hundreds that might be able to make it with a price in the area of $100 per credit for local residents who pay for the college and university with their taxes.
It seems we are paying twice.
I am sad and disappointed to read the personal insults, Dr. Zavaleta. I have always admired you as a class act. While I don't agree with your point of view, I believe you are loyal to it and the university concept. However, the cost of writing off those taxpayers that are working to improve their lot is more important.
On another note, I want to thank El Rocinante for the kind comments. I relish them when it is a personal passion. I also appreciate the negative ones - it keeps the blood flowing in the exchange of ideas. Perhaps the right result will not necessarily be yours or mine but ours. Kudos for the likes of various bloggers of which El Rocinante was the model.
It is only appropriate that the good Doctor would ride the same steed that was used to challenge windmills during earlier times.

Mr. Montoya, why not be the brave soul to keep us informed about the narcowars going on in our sister city of Matamoros? With the Mexican media muzzled by corruption and/or narco threats, we are left with our local media (BH, local TV channels) who have proven to be grossly inadequatee in investigative reporting and too scared to venture into Mexico to pursue the stories.
How can the Herald be happy enough to quote Mayor Ahumada about the violence in Matamoros and not follow-up by verifying his story? Could they not confirm his allegations? What kind of reporters do they have at the Herald that cannot follow up on his leads and sources? Could they not easily contact Matamoros city officials to either confirm or deny Mayor Ahumadas story?
If the Herald chooses to keep us ignorant about the goings on in Mexico, why not use your contacts at el Bravo to sip us the "real news at Matamoros? Now we know EL Bravo has it's marching orders not to print "certain stories", but they could easily slip them to those who are willing to print the truth.
You might want to visit the folllowing sites to see what some Mexican bloggers are posting.

Montoya, come on my man, how about some new stories. All the other blogs are eating your lunch.
Please, El Rocinante a model? You're losing it, Fred.

The voters have finally stood up and shown their displeasure with what is going on at UTB/TSC.
Let us hope for 2 things:
that elected officials are true to their campaign promises and support of the students, and that the next downfall will be the BISD board.
The 4-3 majority vote at the college has now flipped and the minority has become the majority. We now have to make that happen when the BISD election comes around.
Voters, we need to stand up against those who think they are above everyone else and that no one will dare contradict them (except Caty). Let us develop a grassroots committee and find the candidates that will turn the majority around at the Glass Palace.
Congratulations Kiko!
We will be watching you and hold you and Trey to your commitments.
(Please, El Rocinante a model?)
That's about the most intelligent and koolest things I've heard him say. Guess there's still hope for Drew.
Renolds.
El Rocinante hold no bars look what they are doing to a hick town 23 miles north of Brownsville. The name of the town begins with H. yep you guess it.
Say, Mr. Montoya, are you on vacation? You have not written anything since Wed of last week. Que pasa con usted?
Man what happen to this blog, it just went silent. I hope Mssr. Montoya is doing well, or recovering from a night out at La Movida bar.
Cheer up bro,it isn't that bad.
Has this blog ceased to exist??? or is Juanito up in Michigan, running away from the horrible heat. I have feeling we are heading for a storm.
El Rocinante was here years before tilting at the windmills.
The officialdom was afraid of what would be said there and also afraid they would not be mentioned.
I am not a fan of the style but I understand the need to be able to portray as satire not reporting.
Jerry was one of the first to stir interest in what was happening in the local public halls of power.
Right now, right or wrong there are different perspectives to think about and hopefully act on.
I just hope for more real voting and fewer dead folks and non-citizens.
