BROWNSVILLE, Texas-- No, it's no joke. Officially speaking, drivers in the Rio Grande Valley are the safest in Texas, so says the 2010 Allstate America's Best Drivers Report.Brownsville took Allstate's top spot in Texas for the fourth year in a row for having the safest drivers. McAllen came in second, for the second year in a row.
The Allstate report ranks America's 200 largest cities in terms of car collision frequency to identify which cities have the safest drivers according to Allstate data. When compared to cities across the country, Brownsville ranked 36th, and McAllen ranked 46th.
The Report
For the past six years, Allstate actuaries have conducted an in-depth analysis of company claim data to determine the likelihood drivers in America's 200 largest cities will experience a vehicle collision compared to the national average. Internal property damage reported claims were analyzed over a two-year period (from January 2007 to December 2008) to ensure the findings would not be impacted by external influences such as weather or road construction.
A weighted average of the two-year numbers determined the annual percentages. The report defines an auto crash as any collision resulting in a property damage claim. Allstate's auto policies represent about 11 percent of all U.S. auto policies, making this report a realistic snapshot of what's happening on America's roadways.

This report is "crapola"! We probably are number one for uninsured drivers in the state. Since the uninsured drivers and the drivers with Mexican tags (and probably no insurance) make up such a large number.....the Allstate numbers must be questioned. Maybe among the state's drivers who own Allstate insurance....we have so few here that we get the top position by default....high percentage, but low base numbers. For most of us its like bumper cars out there.....people talking on cell phones, putting on make-up, eating, etc....its crazy on the Brownsville streets.
Hello Out There... most people from Brown bean village, are illegal alliens... and that's why They are so careful when driving. Car Insurance companies are making millions out of their lack of Character, and so They so afraid to get stopped, pulled over and then get arrested and finally being deported back to Matamoros or Reynosa !!!
