CLASSROOM TEACHERS, NOT UNION BOSSES, BACK ESCOBEDO

By Brownsville Classroom Teachers Association
Brownsville - The Brownsville Classroom Teachers Association have endorsed Enrique Escobedo’s campaign for BISD Trustee Place 2.
John Clark, President of BCTA, announced in front of their union members that they will join Escobedo’s campaign and work vigorously to elect him this November 2.
“We look forward to working with you as our trustee,” said Clark.
Escobedo thanked the teachers for this endorsement and said he will continue to be a voice for academics in every board meeting.
“Education is the foundation of a student’s life, and teachers are the ones who lay this foundation” Escobedo said. “We must ensure that they are well equipped in every aspect so that their only concern is to contribute to the academic formation of every student”.
Both Escobedo and Clark are committed to working hard this campaign season to ensure that the interest of students, teachers and tax payers are the priority.
“Mr. Clark, you can rest assure we’re going to win this election, with the support of your teacher association, our campaign just grew stronger. Now nothing is going to stop our quest to make education the focus of every board meeting” Escobedo told Clark.

Good job Mr. Clark, let's get those teachers to VOTE, they have taken enough abuse from these two guys.

Teachers can vote Zayas and Cortez out without fear of retaliated because their vote is secret. You would think that the teachers would have figured this out long ago.

Teachers are part of the largest labor organization in Texas and the U.S. The TEA and NEA are lobby organizations that promote teachers....not education. The idea that teachers know what is best in education is blatent bullshit. Teachers follow the lame policies of the administrations (also members of the teachers union) in promotion of union goals....which is take care of teachers; not education of children. Unfortunately students can't vote.....so it all about votes and money....money for teachers. BISD is just another corrupt government here in South Texas.

I think you mean TSTA and NEA TEA is a state government organization. it is AOBE that is associated with these organizations not the Brownsville Classroom Teachers. Classroom Teachers is the smallest organization of teachers in Brownsville.

Teachers need to reconsider. Someone with a low level of schooling is definitely better than a self serving pathological liar!

I can't believe that you are using this as a basis to vote for Cortez.

So it seems that Teachers aren't intelligent enough to make an informed choice about this election. Forget about any "hint" of self-serving from certain BISD board members. Let's attribute that to lower educational levels and let it continue. Nice.

There are many reasons a person might not of finnished HS and then went on to earn a GED. This alone does not make a person bad or ignorant. Dr. oh excuse me I mean Mr. Escobedo is not about education. He thought he could use being a board member to go further in politics. That didn't work so he is back.

Escobedo, he was the one who got busted for faking his Mexican M.D.! What is he doing anywhere near a school. Only in Brownsville

With very little money for teachers, S Fox is sending three of her employees all the way to San Diego, California to get trained in Anger Management. Estimate how much this is going to cost the district. Is there no local training available?

"There are many reasons a person might not of finnished HS and then went on to earn a GED."

Nice. Maybe, if that "person" would have "finnished" high school, he would know that it is "might have" not "might of" and maybe, would, also, pick up that its "finished," not "finnished" (unless maybe if you're from Finland). He would have "gone" on rather than "went" on to bigger and better things. But, why worry about such niceties as grammar. Its only our kids' futures at risk.

So, let me see, if I understand, correctly.

Escobedo wants to move on, politically, which, for some reason is only allowed to other politicians, and he's done a bad job as BISD Trustee.

He left as President in November of 2008 and the District had been awarded the Broad Prize. Thats detestable.

The District had been awarded the CUBE Award. Another despicable achievment.

In December Gonzalez was named Texan of the Year. Damn him for embarrassing the district in such a way.

By the end of 2008 the BISD had gained national recognition. Damn

By the end January, 2009, if someone had called BISD to find the key to success, they would have been pleased to find that Gonzalez had been run off and at least 3 lawsuits had been filed against the District. We're not going to let the national limelight shine on us, unless it shines brown.

And we're so much better off now that Aguilar has taken over. With the help of Colunga and ZayCor. What's a few hundred thousand dollars to their buddy lawyers and millions to their insurance friends.

How dare Art Rendon try to do something about the problems in Special Ed. After all, we can lower the standards, since we are of a "lesser" educational caliber now.

And what business was it of Tony Juarez to try to keep the insurance bidding practices on a professional level since we now adhere to a "lesser" standard of administration.

Aren't we better off now?

please! how many contracts did escobedo's brother get eventhough he knew nothing... how about the re-roofing of schools (he knows the deal with facilities) millions... or how about trying to get in on the alarm monitoring contract. I witnessed six of his guys who couldn't even program the alarm, but still they tried to bill the district. Yes vote him in for another 4 years.

All of you Zayas and Cortez supporters open your eyes, and your ears as well, these four fellows: Aguilar, Colunga, Cortez, and Zayas will continue to rape the citizens of Brownsville, not to mention the teachers and students. Poor teachers, they have very little to work with, but Susan Fox is sending someone for training to California??? Don't you see it? they are desperate, and now, just now???? want to implement ETHICS?? HA...HA...HA. and look who are the ones that suddenly remember there were rules that needed to be followed? HA...HA...HA...wE NEED ESCOBEDO, LONGORIA, SAAVEDRA

What do you mean training?
San Diego has Disney World and Tijuana for Vacation and let loose.

What happens in Cali stays in Cali and is not Training.

I became suspicious of Dr. Escobedo back in 2003 and wrote the following and still wonder...
I would like to take issue with a statement made by Dr. Enrique Escobedo in his ad for BISD Trustee Place 1. He said, “There is no justification to hire uncertified foreign teachers when we have UTB/TSC Pan-American-University and Texas A&M in Kingsville to recruit teachers with proper qualifications.”
This statement creates the impression that there were adequate numbers of teachers waiting to be hired by BISD and that the foreign teachers hired were less qualified than those recent graduates who he says were available.
I would like to submit that there was not a flood of recent graduates; there is indeed a shortage nation wide. More attractive occupations with better salaries beckon harder. Customs and Border Patrol that recruit from the same pool, pay higher and treat their employees much better than teachers are treated in Brownsville. In fact, I am told on a regular basis of more and more teachers leaving to go with these agencies.

The second assertion is that foreigners are not as qualified as the others described. I would never expect such a statement from an educated person especially not from someone aspiring to public service.
I have had the privilege to personally meet many of the “foreigners” hired in the last year. The Filipino educators I met were all professional educators with long relevant experience and advanced degrees. Some were college professors, professional scientists, and one biology teacher was a physician. All of them were trained and educated in a truly bi-lingual educational setting and are fluent in multiple languages as well as English.
I am given to understand that there may be others from Germany and Mexico; possibly others as well.
I personally believe that new thinking in the Brownsville educational system is necessary some “foreigners” might enhance the educational experience.
In order to be able to recruit locally and keep the experienced educators we have, better salaries, a stable leadership and better working conditions, however novel an idea are needed.
