GARCIA'S ROAD MAP TO POWER

By Juan Montoya

People speak about in in whispered tones.
Some say they have actually seen it.
"It" refers to a blueprint written about one and a half years ago outlining the method to ram through the so-called "new and improved" partnership agreement that is being pushed by UTB-TSC president Juliet Garcia and her minions at the hybrid institution.
"It exists," said a source close to the board. "The trustees have all seen it. But no one dares to breath a word of it because there will be swift and sure retaliation on whoever is found to have leaked it."
The blueprint to Juliet's takeover of all assets and real estate of the junior college reportedly directs those supporting Garcia's quest for dictatorial control over the higher education industry in Brownsville and southern Cameron County. At its core, it is said to outline the moves necessary to insure that she remains the sole power in control of all the assets and resources in the area.
With operatives scattered throughout all the entities of any significant power in the city, port, school district, PUB, and the financial entities (IBC), this last quest for total dominance may have run into a snag as a majority of the TSC trustees have shown that they will not be a rubber stamp to her illusions of grandeur.
Tonight, at Gorgas Hall, the showdown between the Machiavellian Garcia and our elected representatives will occur. Time to send her packing.

How can we, the community, voice our distrust of Juliet Garcia? How can we influence the outcome of Juliet's power play? Everyone at the university is scared of losing their jobs, they can't stand up to her. How can we derail this sell out?

Since she can no longer "hand pick" TSC Trustees, Juliet prefers to give everything that the local taxpayers have contributed to TSC taxes over the years....to maintain her personal power as Queen Scorpiana. It is a shame that she is unwilling to accept local control or unwilling to accept criticism...but is willing to give everything to UT System in order to protect her personal power. We already pay taxes to the State of Texas and now she asks us to pay more...to keep her power. UT owes TSC millions of dollars...and she asks that we ignore that debt to our community. That debt will never be paid under her scheme. Every citizen will continue to pay taxes to UT System...and this community loses all control of that money...not fair, not realistic. The news today indicates a grant of millions to the local area for post-secondary education...that means community college is more important than every. Now that grant money goes to UT System if it is spent on UTB programs. We need a community college and Juliet's plan takes that away from us and it takes control away from us. Just say no to Juliet Garcia's play to give away our community college.

In keeping with Juliet's proposal about UTB-TSC, why don't we turn over control of the city, the port, BISD and all the other entities to the State of Texas. Let our property taxes go to the state....as Juliet proposes.....and then see what the state doles out to the RGV. If this "partnership" is good enough for UTB-TSC, then why not give up local control of everything...or all local taxing entities...to the State of Texas. Let Austin, as Juliet proposes, govern us. The State has the money and, as Juliet proposes, we will all be better off with state oversight. Then the state can choose our leaders.....as it will at UTB-TSC under Juliet's plan. We will be taxed but will have no local control....as Juliet proposes. Juliet is proposing a socialistic approach...that things will be better with "Big Brother" looking over us and making decision for us. Why does she want to do this....because Juliet is afraid of local control and has sold her soul to UT System and trust them to keep her in power....despite the will of the citizens of Brownsville and Cameron County. Then we will be beggars and subject to the handouts of the state.

The Herald prints a story the day of the vote, today 10/21/2010. They called to interview TSC Trustees and printed their answers. Mr. Torres gave the best answer, IMHO.

Also, it is categorized as a "Most Viewed" online article. I hope the Trustees can stand up to Juliet's coercion.

Juliet is quick to refer to "United Brownsville" but she isn't so quick to take this partnership debate to the people. She must be relying on Mark Sossi style..."Keep the Public Quiet" philosophy to make decisions without public input.....or as Mark says, "To protect against litigation"....from free speech. Juliet is fighting against transparency and public debate....or even public information about this educational "coup" attempt.

They will get our taxes, and we will get no voice in how they shall be used? Is that not "taxation without representation"?

Call which Trustees? She has a minority locally, and how are we to know which Trustees in Austin are in cahoots with this plan?

Adela puts all these wanna be's to SHAME. She has more sense than Juliet, Reba, Rentfro, Robles, Oliviera put together.
