America's first international airline will take to the skies again in November, when Pan American Airways begins flying out of its Texas hub. But the brand's glamour days are behind it: The new Pan American will start out carrying cargo, not passengers.
The new airline — the fifth attempt to re-establish Pan-Am since it went bankrupt in 1991 — will

operate out of Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport, near Texas' Mexican border.
On its website, company president Robert Hedrick says the new Pan-Am will launch its inaugural flight — to Monterrey, Mexico — after a rededication ceremony on Nov. 12.
As reported by Robert J. Hawkins at Sign On San Diego, the company says it will use the same building that was the Latin American headquarters for the original Pan-Am.
Brought back to life in a deal with shipping firm World-Wide Consolidated Logistics, Inc., the new Pan-Am hopes to begin passenger service in 2012 to cities throughout Latin America. And it has another ambitious plan: to someday provide service to Africa, via a southern route.
The airline may have trouble establishing itself, as its website was a bit hard to find. For now at least, the top Pan-Am website in search results is an archival one, celebrating the airline's glory days after its birth in 1927. One thing that site's got going for it: some cool images of old Pan-Am planes. (This article first appeared on NPR)

Hope the airline makes it this time. I read an article on www.signonsandiego.com tiltled: " The Clipper is Coming back"
If the airplane runs out of runway, the captain can always use the sports park to land. This is great news and I do hope it brings back jobs that once existed way back when they were all moved to California or Florida with Pan Am. Perks like this is what we citizens are waiting for here in Brownsville and what we expect from our leaders. We need more companies that will offer people jobs and remove them from that "special credit card" and "special free cell phone" that they are provided with. Good news, Brownsville; let us not mess it up!
Now at least some of the TRANSMIGRANTES will have a chance to go home without going through the battlefield.

I remember back in the 1990's there was a major freight airline called Evergreen International Airlines Inc. that had met with city officals about the possibility of beginning operations at the Brownsville/SPI International airport.
The airline wanted to make Brownsville-Matamoros a recognized force in the global economy and to have the opportunity to grow in idustrial space by opening the United States, Mexico, Central America and South America.
The Brownsville airport needed to extend the main runway to 10,000 feet so the airline could land cargo, but the airport never did, so Evergreen went somewhere else.
Brownsville, at the time, had lost its two major cargo companies; Emery Worldwide and Burlington to Harlingen because of the runway wasnt long enough for them to land bigger cargo planes.
Will Pan American Airways also leave the city if the airport dosent extent the runway so it can land larger cargo planes?
The airport and city have been talking about extending the runway to 10,000 feet for a long time and it hasn't happend, the need to get with it and do it as fast as possible or run the risk of loosing Pan American Airways to another city with a longer runway.
