While he waits on the Social Security Administration to make a decision on his disability application, Dennart (right), tries his best to keep up his spirits.
The former shrimp boat hand used to live in Port Isabel and now works the traffic near the overpass at FM 802 and the frontage road off US 77-83.
Originally from Wyoming, he said he had worked his way from the west and to the Gulf Coast until he injured his back aboard a boat.
"I lived in Oregon for a while near Mount Bachelor in the mountains," he said. "I really miss the mountains, but I don't miss the cold."
Panhandling as he waits for the SS to reach a decision on his case has not been easy, he said.
"I'm looking at waiting for maybe a year or two before I get a decision on my case," he said. "Until then I'll see how long I can go on like this. People have been good to me. I'm grateful."
