WE'LL TAKE THAT BLAKE: A SEASON OF SOLOMON MEAN

By Juan Montoya
Despite the statesman-like swan song made by deposed District 27 congressman Solomon Ortiz after finally conceding the race to Blake Farenthold after holding the reins of office for 28 years, behind the scenes it was a vastly different story.
When Farenthold staff members arrived at the congressman's office to take over services to constituents, they were met by a cavernous office devoid of everything but the kitchen sink in the lounge area.
There were no computers, constituents' files, office calendars, contact lists – nothing.
In a scene reminiscent of the supposed stripping of staffer offices by Clinton workers when George W. Bush took over (that turned out not to have happened), new southern field rep Adela Garza and other workers had an empty office to work with.
"We had to use our personal computers for a while," said one. "The Ortiz people took absolutely everything we needed to work with them. Nobody knew where anything was."
Garza, also a Texas Southmost College district trustee, knows something about working under adversity and has set out to bring the office up to House of Representatives snuff. She said Government Service Administration (GSA) reps would be spending the next days and weeks outfitting the office, which incidentally will be the same one occupied by the Ortiz bunch.
"The location is good and the cost of the rent is competitive so we decided to keep the same office," Garza said. "We are looking forward to offer the services of the U.S. government to the residents of District 27."
As the new team takes over and establishes contacts with local residents and government entities and representatives, they are making some interesting discoveries that they say they will share with us in the future once they settle down.
Meanwhile, Adela and her staff are open to serve District 27 constituents at 1805 Ruben Torres, Suite B-27 and can be reached at (956) 544-8800.

That is indeed a shame. I am not a Democrat and was always treated professionally when I called upon them, which was not infrequent.
I would have thought the staff, that has in the past impressed me as being competent especially Ms Jaross, the Immigration specialist, who was extraordinary.
Just to build up a contact list will be trying.
Could the mess have been stirred by the ghost of "Lencho"?

In the end Solomon proved to be like other Dumbokrats here in the RGV; vindictive, inconsiderate, unprofessional, assholes. Perhaps Gilbero Hinojosa managed the dismembering of the offices...poor losers; assholes all. Perhaps Ortiz was afraid that his incompetence and corruption could be defined by anything left behind. The best thing for all of us was that he is gone and will soon be forgotten.
