What do Omar Lucio, Joe Rivera, David Betancourt, Aurora De la Garza, Tony Yzaguirre and Mario Villarreal have in common?
All, except for Villarreal, are county Democratic party office holders (Lucio sheriff, Rivera county clerk, Betancourt treasurer, De la Garza district clerk, Yzaguirre tax assessor-collector). Villarreal, identified as a "community leader," is a former Brownsville Navigation District commissioner. And, except for Lucio, all are Brownsville residents.
And all, apparently, have jumped aboard the Tony Martinez for City of Brownsville Mayor bandwagon and are sponsoring the Tuesday pachanga with carne asada, beer and refreshments and DJ music.
Suddenly, a supposedly non-partisan election has become very partisan, with the Democrat banner holders urging their constituents to "get out the vote."
In fact, about the only one missing from the photo op besides Yzaguirre was Democratic Party chairman Gilberto Hinojosa. We can't believe a political animal like Gilbert would be left in the dark of this affair for his fellow lawyer.
Things get a little complicated here.
Villarreal also happens to be renting some of his office space at 700 E. Levee to Edward Camarillo, one of five candidates for city mayor of Brownsville. Not that long ago when we visited Villarreal, he was singing the praises of young Camarillo and urging us to listen to the city commissioner's message.
In fact, Villarreal said he was donating the office space to the Camarillo campaign to help hnim out. During our visit he was going to shbow us the offices except that camarillo's campaign staff was not there during lunch.
"What happened?" asked a Camarillo supporter. "One day he is praising Edward, the next he is sponsoring this pachanga for Martinez. It's hard to figure out."
What's even harder for some local observers to figure out is whether Martinez has thought about the effect that his alliance with the discredited Democratic Party might have on his campaign.
For the first time in history, Democrats lost both the county judge and the U.S. Representative seats. And what is Lucio, a Harlingen resident, doing endorsing a Brownsville candidate for mayor of the City of Brownsville?
Martinez probably figures that with four opponents nothing can be too much in this race. Still, with the anti-incumbent sentiment in the county and country, it's somewhat risky to invoke the names of these Democratic Party dinosaurs to gather support for his race.
The spot of the party ( a ranch off Alton Gloor) just happens to be located outside the Brownsville city limits.
And we found out that the ad agency running the campaign and directing the advertising was from San Antonio, the same one that had handled the losing Rose Gowen campaign agt the college.
Go figure.
So palanca pullers, if you want to trade your vote for some carne asada beer, DJ music and to rub shoulders with Omar, Joe, Aurorita, Tony, David, and Mario, take a cruise out to the ranch outside the city limits and much out.

Could it be that the County is also paying for this?
Bunch of boozos !!
Mario Villarreal also has a yard sign of Mike Garza on his 700 suite sign along with Camarillo. What about Viro, Mario?
Hey Tony, can we pay to run this ad again? Every Sunday from here to the election.
Sincerely
Camarillo's Camp
The Camarillo Campaign is willing to pay for this ad to run every weekend from here to the day of the election.
Hahaha what a fuck up!
Who do you smell between the pictures?
My guess is Gilberto Hinojosa wants to control the city.
defeatmartinezvillarealhinojosahernadezPAC sounds good to me.
Aurora de la Garza is the biggest slug of that group of Dumbokrats. She used her influence to buy her son, Joey, out of felony charge. She used DA Villalobos (and I am sure he let himself be used) to sweep that felony charge away by moving it to Judge "Disable" Limas' court ( a lame duck Judge at the time) who gave Joey a hand job (on behalf of Aurora) and deferred adjudication....and just before "Disable" Limas left the bench (a benefit to all of Cameron County) he dismissed "Little Joey" felony. Aurora should be tarred and feathored for using her position to sweep her son's theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars from a non-profit hospice...from the dying. Just seeing that Tony Martinez is hiding behind the Dumbokratic Party of Ray Ramon, Conrado Cantu, Gilberto Hinojosa, Ernie Hernandez, Mando Villalobos, et al...makes my skin crawl. This endorsement causes me to look at the other mayoral candidates. Is there anyone of them that is not for sell??????
Anony, don't forget this:
Who was Limas' campaign treasurer?
That's right, Tony Martinez' Son, Trey Martinez.
Believe in Brownsville... fuckups!
WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT TO SEE MR. MARIO VILLARREAL INVOLVED IN MARTINEZ CAMPAIGN. THIS COUNTRY IS IN DEEP TROUBLE BECAUSE OF LAWYERS ESPECIALLY democRAT LAWYERS. HE'S A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS MAN NOW I'M BEGINNING TO QUESTION IF HE ACHIEVE HIS SUCCESS BEING CORRUPT LIKE ALL democRATS !!!!!!!!
With regard to "slugs" add David Betancourt to that slimey group. David Betancourt's name seems to pop up regularly....is it because he hits every watering hole so often, or is it because we think if he had any balls he would eliminate his elected position, as many Texas counties; and the state have done. David is a DICK who was born with a public tit in his mouth. He and the Betancourt clan seem to believe that their "daddy" gave them a right to take advantage of the public.
If Trey was a supporter of "Disable" Limas, more of a reason to question the Martinez and Dumbokratic Party connection. If so, they have little regard for the public.
It is a joke to think of these assholes as "Cameron County Leaders". They couldn't lead a horse to water...none of them.
I want to set the record straight for david Betancourt. He advised me that he did not sign a release of his photo and that his intention was not to endorse any candidate. I believe him and he shouldn't be put in the middle of this race when he doesn't want to be. Though Tony or Camarillo are candidates David might support, it is left to him to decide, not Joe Rivera.
Commissioner Atkinson
They forgot to put ERNIE HERNDANDEZ on the list, or a tiny bit of common sense finally kicked in... quien sobby
I am afraid that when Tony accepted the Dumbokratic endorsement he lost many votes...votes of people that would have supported him othewise. We know he isn't comfortable as a campaigner, but to give up to Gilberto Hinojosa and his "gang" is I understand that this path was dictated by Juliet Garcia and her "committee"....the reason Tony is running..
...issues, specifics, please.
...generalities, no.
...positions, yes.
...hedging, no.
...am waiting, and fear I will be waiting even after the election(s) ....
Don't these County Leaders know that Gallegos Electric...location of this pachanga....is not on E. Alton Gloor or El Jardin Hgts. It is located on Dr. Hugh Emerson BLVD. These local leaders go to the trouble of honoring a man....and then prove how shallow they and their memories have become. Old military saying
"lead, follow or get out of the way"....we need to get all those whose on this poster out of the way.
well, i was gonna vote for martinez because he seems reasonable and he speaks well, but i don't want to support the clicka
