STUNG BY DEFEAT ON TSC-UTB, LOSERS SPEW VENOM

By Juan Montoya
Unable to overcome the stinging defeat of their plans to hand over the assets of the Texas Southmost College district and leaving local taxpayers saddled with $102 million in debt, supporters of UTB president Juliet Garcia have the term "sore losers" a brand new meaning. After telling the majority on the board that they wanted to know nothing about TSC, doctors Robert Robles and Robert Lozano are now crying foul because they were not told about an informal meeting with transition consultant Dr. Robert Ferguson. And a letter from criminal justice student at TSC-UTB , one Leslie Wood, should make everyone who may have to deal with her in the future as a law enforcement officer the heebie-jeebies once one reads the missive that puts her prejudice and ignorance on public display.Trustee David Oliveira, displaying the fine skills of a barrister which he usually doesn't in a courtroom when a witness is represented by opposing legal counsel, was so obviously badgering Ferguson, that trustee Adela Garza objected that he was asking leading questions.
"Objection, leading," Garza said as Oliveria breached the limits of a decorum usually recognized for public forums.
What this majority and their charismatic leader Garcia find so hand to fathom even at this juncture is that they lost. A majority of the board of the TSC trustees, performing the duties that a majority of the voters of the district has entrusted them to do, have decided they don't want to follow the administration's game plan to dissolve the college district.
Neither do they want to give the UT System $200 million in assets paid for with blood, sweat and tears by district taxpayers and saddle them with an unconscionable debt of $102 million over the next 23 years.
To letter writer Wood these actions are making the majority of the board the laughing stock of the rest of the Rio Grande Valley. To her, it means that they have "placed personal gain above their community's needs."
Uh?
Does Wood mean to say that other elected officials in the Valley would have gone along with the Garcia plan?
Since you say you are a Harlingen resident, let me ask you this: If you were renting a home and your tenant was behind on his rent (some $15 million), asked you to give the house to him as gift, demand that you keep paying the mortgage, and after you paid it over 23 years, that the home belong to him, would you go along with it?
Now, this is the same tenant who has raised you tuition and user fees to the highest of any community college in the State of Texas.
This is the same president who gave herself a $25,000(+) raise while the rest of the college was being asked to cut costs by 10 to 25 percent.
You defend the actions of the Man of God Armand Mathew, who in no uncertain terms (and in writing) threatened trustee Trey Mendez with professional destruction in Brownsville and vowed t use every ounce of his remaining strength to achieve this goal so worthy from someone who has (in your own words "dedicated his life to God."
God deliver us if he had chosen to join a satanic sect. He'd be truly scary then.
For you information, it appears that unlike you, Bishop Daniel E. Flores, was not as approving. However, since Mathew belongs to the Order of Oblates, and not under the bishop's direction. But the word has already reched that order that their rouge monk is behaving badly\, we understand.
Perhaps what rankles Robles, Lozano, Oliveira and ignoramus Wood, is the fact that those in the majority (Kiko Rendon, Garza, Rene Torres, Mendez) are not behaving like they should and getting uppity at the plantation.
If they had gone along with the Garcia steamroller back in October when she and TSC counsel Dan Rentfro attempted to ramrod this plan without any public debate, they wouldn't have to deal with the spite of Mathews, the power brokers, the likes of letter writer Wood, or anyone who didn't know any better.
What they would have to deal with would have been their conscience that they had betrayed the very people who elected them to defend their interests.

I heard Oliveira made an ass of himself at the meeting, again.

Robles was a "no show" at the Thursday meeting. Oliveira was alone and made a fool of himself. He REALLY APPEARED to be REPRESENTING UT, NOT TSC. This is past "sad". This is impeachment time.

Has Mathew left town? He should. What a sack of s**t.

Wood is really stupid. Hopefully Wood will never come back to the Valley. We don't need idiots here.

Have you seen the "shell" bill filed by Rep. Oliveira? It is a UT DREAM! In it, TSC MUST provide building space for UT but NOWHERE does is say that UT must pay RENT! I wonder if Trustee Oliveira (David) knows about it, since he has never heard of a "shell" bill. Dumb**s!

Oliviera, Bobby Robles, and the letter writing student (amazed that she can even write a letter)are all defending Juliet.....not thinking for themselves. They present vague innuendos and no facts for taking their position. The attack individuals...they don't or can't debate. Juliet and her "committee" are angry (that they were defeated) and unwilling to compromise (Juliet's main characteristic...her way or no way). They prefer to get their way by besmurching the good names of their opponents (something Juliet loves to do also) and seem unwilling to explain to the public why we should just give away $200 million of tax funded assets to UT which is $11 million in debt to TSC for rents not paid, and then the taxpayer should continue to pay the bills for 20 more years (mas or menos). Juliet and her "committee" (which includes Bobby Robles, David Oliviera) never brought this "sell out" to the people last year. That very fact proves that Oliviera, Robles and Lozano let the voters down and they are not stewards of the public trust. Juliet and her "committee" were will to give away everything to one of the richest university systems in the nation....again, taking from the poor to make the rich richer. Juliet and her "committee" are taking the low road....the road most bad losers take. What a shame Juliet is to our community...she takes from the poor to make herself rich.

Rep. Oliveira, Trustee Oliveira, Robles and Lozano work for UT System. We need to question their finances for the last couple of years. I wonder if they got money like Juliet did in her self-imposed raise?

Hey David: what did Juliet promise you? Were you going to be made a UT Regent?

Robles just wants the Art Building named after him.

He can have the Arts Building for 36 Million does not serve TSC students anyway. They cannot use it

These people really believe there are no other people that matter in Brownsville but themselves. If they only knew what some of their own people are saying about them. To bad they cannot stand up to them what a bunch of idiots they are.

Julieta needs to retire for the community to ever heal. I pray UT at some point owns up to all the mistakes they have made because she has lead them in the wrong path. She will never stop trying to rob from the community ever more so now. She has four years to do it and she will use them well

Not for post. I always look forward to your publication. As I was reading this article, I got a bit confused so I read it again. You have some sentence fragments and misspelled words. This is not a criticism, just an observation. Maybe you were really tired, that happens. Anyway, I really enjoy reading your blog. Thank you for speaking the truth.
