THE MARTINEZ'S CAMPAIGN TO HAVE "TREY" APPOINTED DA

By Juan Montoya
We all know about the campaign by attorney Tony Martinez to become mayor of the fair City of Brownsville.
But did you know that both he and his son "Benigno Antonio Martinez III (Trey), also an attorney, are actively campaigning to have Tony The Younger appointed Cameron County District Attorney when the current holder of that seat – Armando Villalobos – makes the jump for the new congressional district?
Our sources indicate that it's not a question of whether Mando will run for the new district, but when he'll announce.
Watchers expect that the new redistricting will result in the boundaries of the current Congressional District 27 being pushed up further north to encompass most of Nueces and other adjacent counties, leaving the new district encompassing Cameron and parts of Willacy and perhaps into some of Hidalgo.
"Mando is a natural," said a Democrat insider. "He has managed to keep himself fairly clean, even in the (Abel) Limas cases. He objected to having (Amit) Livingston freed but all the action took place in the judge's chambers. He emerged relatively unscathed in the process."
Our sources tell us that an exploratory committee will meet this coming May 23 at South Padre Island to formulate the Villalobos candidacy for congress. It is rumored Mando has a $200,000 campaign chest to make the run for the position.
"Whatever you may think of him, he is a formidable campaigner," said the Democrat. "Right now you would have to list him as the front runner for that seat."
About the only other candidate who has been rumored to make a run for the post is Rene Oliveira, the current Texas State Rep. for the 37th District, has been in office for 30 years. However, he has been seen as being in the pocket of energy and insurance companies. The recent brouhaha over the "partnership" between Texas Southmost College and the UT System has not cast him in a good light.
"Rene was seen as doing the bidding of Juliet Garcia and the UT Regents over the welfare of the college district," said a TSC majority supporter. "His cousin David is on the board of trustees and both are sen as being in the pocket of (UTB-TSC) president Garcia.
If Villalobos does decide to run, it'll be up to the commissioners court on the advice of local party leaders to decide on his replacement. Insiders say Martinez The Elder, is already touching base with commissioners to have his son "Trey" appointed to the DA's spot.
There is however, one caveat to the Trey candidacy. Trey The Younger was a close confidant to disgraced 404th District Judge Abel Limas and contributed to his campaing against Cornejo-Lopez in both advice and money. In fact, he was his campaign manager.
But will that matter to the highly-politicized majority on the county commissioners court?
"He has (David) Sanchez, Ernie Hernandez and Sofie (Benavides) on board," insiders said. "The campaign is already under way. If that happens, we might have a mayor of the county's biggest city and the top law enforcement officer in the county being related."

Oh well--I guess the politics continues. Is there any discussion about these "candidates" QUALIFICATIONS? Is any one of them, who is running or coveting any of these positions, qualified to hold that position?

Trey Martinez was Able Limas' Campaign Manager in his re-election bid agains Elia Cornejo Lopez. He was his treaure as well. Wonder if Martinez" name will come up in the LImas case.

Tony, Trey's dad, loves Obama and Juliet. That should be enough information to make a decision not to vote for him, and to keep the younger out as well.

The higher a baboon climbs a pool, the more he shows his ass.

What a ridiculous article. A vacancy in the DA's office is filled by the governor, not the commissioners court.

As long as there is a breath in me, I will work to insert the Amit Livingston fiasco and the Joey de la Garza mis-justice into any campaign run by Armando Villalobos. His ego is large, but he would be eaten alive in Washington. Like Limas, Villalobos is not a smart man and needs to live off the public teat...'cause he can't make a living on his own. Cameron County would make a great mistake by electing Villalobos to any position after the misjudgment he has displayed in the Amit Livingston case and manipulating the judicial system to favor Aurora de la Garza's thief of a son. Villalobos is just as guilty of "unjustice" in these cases as is Limas. Villalobos is a DICK!!

The sooner Villalobos resigns his office, the better off the county and the county judicial system will be. Armando Villalobos is a puppet to the Dumbokratic Party and the likes of Gilberto Hinojosa, Conrado Cantu, Omar Lucio, Able Limas, Ray Ramon, and others whose ego's and greed come before public service.

DON'T THINK MR. VILLALOBOS IS SLEEPING VERY WELL THESE DAYS. ITS RIDICULOUS WHAT MR. MONTOYA IS TRYING TO FEED THE PEOPLE WITH HIS COMMENT. THERE ARE MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS TO EVEN SUGGEST MR. VILLALOBOS IS OFF THE HOOK. PEOPLE THAT DO NOT LIKE A RESULT CHASE JUSTICE, COMPLAINT. IN MR. LIMAS CASE COMPLAINTS ARE BEING DONE AFTER HIS GUILTY (DA). HE IS GETTING WORKED ON AS WE SPEAK. ITS ALL JUST A MATTER OF TIME. HAVE A GOOD DAY.
