HOJAS SUELTAS TAKE ON A NEW (SINISTER) MEANING

By Juan Montoya
At one time, so-called hojas sueltas would flood neighborhoods before elections often calling attention to the alleged shortcomings and wrong doings of the opposing candidates.
Now, as we advance in the wold of Photoshop and desktop printing, that hoja suleta has taken on an entire new meaning.
Professionally produced yard signs and campaign cards with doctored pictures have appeared in this race, most notably in the mayoral race. The biggest expense seems to have been taken with yard signs (there's one at the rear entrance of the Central Library where the photo was taken by my son Miguel Angel Montoya) depicting candidate Tony Martinez linked with Democratic Chairman Gilbert Hinojosa and disgraced (and convicted) former 404th district Judge Abel Limas.
Gilbert is cast in the background and as a small devil on Limas's shoulder while Martinez is seen handing out a fistful of $100 bills to Limas to sway the scales of justice.
The poster probably refers to the fact that Martinez and his son "Trey" contributed heavily to the former judge's campaign when he ran against Elia Cornejo-Lopez with the younger Martinez actually performing the role of his campaign manager.
Hinojosa was an ardent Limas supporter who is actively supporting Martinez in his bid for mayor this time around. The heading "Gilbert H. Boys" attempts to smear both Limas and Martinez because of their relationship with El Bigoton. No Mas Calabazas, the sign reads refering to the code word used by Manuel Longoria, Limas's gopher for payoffs.
In the bottom push card, the heading now reads "Carlos Q. Boys" in reference to mayoral candidates Pat Ahumada and Eduardo Camarillo reported support of Carlos Quintanilla's Fly Frontera Airline.
It pictures Ahumada drunk at the wheel of his car and an unflattering depiction of Camarillo like a Baby Huey in diapers with a toy airplane.
Like the hoja suelta, neither the yard sing nor the push card bears a political disclaimer identifying the author of the missives.

And today the Herald indicates that Armando Villalobos is forming a committee to assess a possible U.S. Representative campaign. We have already heard that Gilberto Hinojosa has been going through the 27th District to "explore" a candidacy for his Dumbokrat candidate. Villalobos is a Gilberto Hinjosa supporter and seems to becoming a clone of corruption to continue the Dumbokratic ruination of local politics. Villalobos should be a "person of interest" in the Limas case; along with Hinojosa and all other Democratic Party Officials. Villalobs has brought us "injustice", favoritism, corruption and professional courtesy to lawyers in the judicial system. He along with Limas allowed a convicted murderer to walk out of the court an into the night...never to be heard of again. Villalobos gave Aurora de la Garza's scum bag son a "free ride" in a felony fraud case without ever inviting the victims to be heard. The Joey de la Garza case alone should be enough to make Villalobos and Aurora "persons of interest" in the Limas case. As far as I am concerned the Cameron County Demokratic Party is so corrupt that all elected officials should be investigated. Each has, in some way, sold his/her soul to the corrupt ways of Gilberto Hinojosa to be investigated. At this point we might want to ask how much the party is chipping in to Limas' family to keep him from singing on the big boys in the corrupt party??
The Cameron County Demokratic Party theme song should be "Money makes the World Go 'Round" and their slogan is "Show me the Money".

Wow they give me so much credit but no the only boys I have are Sebastian, Nicolas and Michael Quintanilla.

I wonder what they will be saying when they have to defend themselves in court.

Brownsville deserves better than flyers without substance.

End the highest unemployment in Texas. Change the negative mentality that they have of Brownsville. Provide much needed help to Children with Special needs. End corruption and compadrismo within Brownsville judicial system. Stop the beatings and abuse of inmates at the Cameron County jail. Quit writing checks that bounce at BISD and create jobs for the unemployed in Brownsville.

Fly frontera was a start and at least we had the vision to propose it and develop something that is critically needed for the Rio Grande Valley.

We have receive a great response from other airports and from private investors. We will be allright, we wish the same for Brownsville.

I think the Citizens of Brownsville deserve better leadership and a better future.

If I were to take a wild guess on who designed these signs, guess would be Carlos Quntanilla. They are done in the same style as the BISD anti Zayas Cortez PAC card. Tony Martinez openly criticized Fly Frontera. Why attack Ahmada and Camarillo? One can speculate he could conceivably blame them for not getting Fly Frontera passed. Attacking all leading mayoral candidates, indiscriminately, reveals a lack of strategic interest. it comes across more like an angry tantrum.
