The weather forecast has become a broken record: Hot today, hot tomorrow, hot the day after tomorrow.
Fire marshals and emergency managers have declared burn bans throughout South Texas and warned residents to be on the alert for stray sparks that could start fires.
In the tinder-dry environment that our region has become, anything, from a cigarette butt thrown out a car indow to an arc from a dusty electric wire, can potentially start a blaze that endangers nearby plants and structures.
On Monday, Public Utility Board crews were trying to minimize the danger from, electric arcs washing them down with sprays of water. And over by Security Drive, someone, no one knows who, inadvertently started a blaze behind the Thrift Store) formerly the Drug Emporium. The firefighters got there in time to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby warehouses or sofas donated and stacked behind the thrift store.
There is no end to the drought in sight so we'll probably see more of these scenes as the hot summer drags on.
