We posted a story about Pct. 4 commissioner Dan Sanchez hiring Rolando Muñiz as his secretary/receptionist after he lost to Manuel Flores for Justice of the Peace, Pct. 4.
What we didn't know and have been informed is that Muñiz is also his cousin. Also, we understand that he doesn't know how to type, take shorthand, or perhaps even make a decent cup of coffee.
So why was Muñiz put on the county payroll?
"That's the way Sanchez operates," said a Pct. 4 resident. "He hands out jobs as patronage if you are his political ally. If you're not, watch out."Residents in Sanchez's precinct say that's what's behind the commissioner's efforts to do away with the Justice of the Peace position that Muñz didn't win. They also say he's trying to do away with the Constable, Pct. 7 office now held by Cesar Diaz, who he considers a political foe.
Sanchez, a practising attorney, was left without a job when the commissioners court voted to eliminate his position on December 2009, as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 7, Place 2 position.
As far as we know, the current commission is not contemplating eliminating any of the remaining justice of the peace and constable positions. Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos has stated that he would favor eliminating positions only after a thorough analysis of their cost-effectiveness.
"It would have to be for the right reasons," he said recently.
Patronage, the old evil of the Gilbert Hinojosa regime, is apparently well and flourishing in Cameron County.

NOT SURPRISE SANCHEZ IS PART OF BROWNSVILLE/CAMERON CO. CULTURE OF CORRUPTION. BTW ALL DEMOC-RATS!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like Dan is related to Aurora de la Garza...who has found a way to hire many of her relatives, including her felon son, Joey. The Dumbokratic politics of Conrado Cantu, "Disable" Limas, Gilberto Hinojosa, Jim Solis, et al...continues to plague our community. It seems that voters don't just accept corruption...they demand it from elected officials.
The Sanchez brothers have forgotten those who helped them get where they are at??? They have forgotten what their mother and father have taught them??? They have good hearts but allow politics to dictate some of their decision making??? They can make a difference but need to forget the politics and do the right thing??? Former Federal Judge Vela saw something in these guys and should not forget the advise he gave them??? Your mom and dad brought you up right, don't forget that???
God, please don't support Maria De Ford!!!
Well, its been in the talks for the last 2 years. Besides the small town of Rio Hondo does not need the Pct. 4 Constable or the Judges office here. They are always at their homes and not patrolling. If you call their front office and ask for one of them the secretary says they are not in, you call the constable on the cell phone and he wont answer so why have an office here if they are never available to people. All they are getting is a free paycheck and doing nothing. The JPs wife is always in his office, she quit her job to go to school so now has no job but they both go run errands together and forget the full time position that Manguera had and loved. ITS ABOUT TIME THAT THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS HAD SOME SENSE TO GET RID OF THESE POSITIONS HERE.
