When I first came back to Brownsville from college in the Midwest, one of the most active persons in the civic landscape was Corina Robertson.
I remember that she was smart, intense, and passionate about whatever issue she took on.
I also met her former mate Dale Robertson, at one time the chairman of the Democratic Party.
Over the years, she drifted in and out of Brownsville as she sought to make her own inroads into local, state and national politics. She spoke vividly about her experience working with advocacy groups in Washington D.C. and knew the key players personally.
I would often run into Corina at local political gatherings and would often chat with her about the old days and about the current goings-on. She was involved in numerous civic organizations promoting the city that she called home and loved so much.
Yesterday, we learned that she was found in her home on W. St. Charles, apparently after taking her life by her own hand.
Ours is not to judge at this distance what may have prompted her to take this fatal step, nor can we begin to understand the depths of despair that drove her there. We can only remember the Corina that we knew as an energetic, passionate and intensely intelligent woman that we were fortunate to have met on this brief journey of ours through this too-short life. She loved Brownsville and its people.
Our condolences go to her loved ones, her family and her friends.
Rest in peace, Corina. We will miss you.

she was kind of off. I don't know how she was in the old days, but it was clear she had hit a downward spiral. This is sad news, but not surprising.

...sadly, some people find it easy to throw stones at dead people. Reminds me of a line from Julius Ceasar which speaks to the good that people do "is oft interred with their bones..."
Well Corina, you lived life on your terms and with no apologies and when it no longer suited you, you just left the party early. So, good night, Corrie, good night.
Let's please not bash Corrina! Let her rest in peace. Whatever she was or whatever she said or did shouldn't be brought up the day after her untimely death. In fact, it shouldn't be a conversational piece at any time now that she's dead! If people HAVE to be mean/cruel do it to someone that can defend themselves. Rest in peace-Corrina
Corina was not the kind to kill herself. It smells like foul play.

Corina was my friend from high school. She was a passionate person who always stood up for those without a voice. She helped me when domestic violence affected my life and was instrumental in creating the first women's shelter in Brownsville. Thank you Corina for always staying true to yourself. Corina's was an alcoholic, & crazy when she drank. Drugs, never. Suicidal at times for attention.She would be a magician to pull off her final act & covering herself w/ a blanket! Where was her dog? Very fishy even for Corina.
