DO YOU KNOW WHERE THE PUB TOP BRASS REALLY LIVE?

By Juan Montoya

Someone had told us that if we looked at some of the top salaried employees at the Brownsville Public Utility Board we would be surprised to find that some of our the best paid public utility employees lived outside of Brownsville.
We therefore filed a request for information of the top administrators on their operations chart and also for their residency (not home address, mind you).
We got this letter in response from the law firm representing PUB in return.

"Attached is a letter to the Texas Attorney General’s Office requesting a ruling on your Public Information Request dated July 27, 2011 to Nancy Tello of the Brownsville Public Utilities Board. Generally, the Attorney General’s Office takes approximately two months to render an opinion. Once they have issued their opinion, we will forward you a copy for your records as well as immediately comply with any instructions we are given by that Office.
Thank you."

The initial request was for the salary and residency (not home address), of the following.
Records requested: copies
Description of request:
(Salaries next to the names were provided by PUB as follows):
The salary and residence of record of:
General Manager John S. Bruciak, PE, $184,059

Power Supply. Elec. Transmission & Distr. and Wastewater E. Oper. James McCann, PE, $125,008

Accounting: Miguel A. Perez, Asst. Director of Finance, $89,877
Customer &Information Services: Eddy Hernandez, Director, $107,473
Purchasing, Diane Solitaire, Manager, $74,692
Key Accounts, Mkting: Ana I. Lozano, $74, 692
Fleet Management: Carlos Solitaire (no longer with PUB)

Question 1: Are Genoveva Gomez and Alberto Gomez related? Are Carlos Solitaire and Diane Solitaire related?
Question 2: Is there a requirement within the PUB employee handbook that requries PUB administrators and employees to reside in Brownsville?

Nancy Tello, PUB manager of Public Records, informed us that the Texas Public Information Act does not require PUB to "respond to questions, only to provide records," so if we wanted answers to our last two questions, to submit them in writing separately.
So be it.
Now we are asking our readers that if they know which city other than Brownsville where any of the individuals listed above reside in (not addresses), please help us out by forwarding them to this blog or post in in the comments section.

Why are we doing this, you may ask?

PUB is a crucial element in our city. Its earnings from ratepayers actually keep the city's budget afloat. If these top-paid executives live somewhere else than here, for what possible reason would they care about high utility rates, quality of utility services, and the burgeoning $450,000,000 in debt that the utility is carrying and which will be paid in its majority by utility rates?

Interestingly, Ms. Tello indicated that all but one (Bruciak) of the above-listed employees had refused to divulge their place of residence (not home address, mind you).

Can you, our readers, help us out?

Lucy Hernandez over $100k? Have you met or spoken to her? One of the most moribund persons you've ever seen. She must have pictures of someone.

Who cares where they live, what about the awful, nasty, smell all over the city coming out of those lift stations. Do a story on how much PUB has spent on “smell” containment. You’ll be surprised at the amount of money wasted on the present vendor for the control of lift station odor.

Leandro Garcia has a home in Austin and an apartment in Brownsville and travels back home for the weekend.

If you are concerned with where people are residing as far as the high paid personnel in PUB, just look at BISD. Take a look at those high paid BISD salaried positions and find out where they reside as well.

More important, is where do these 'tards get off agreeing to lend money to faulty business ventures like Fly Frontera.

If they have plenty of money to lend, why not lower our fucking utility rates!

i don't care where they live, or how much they make...i only care that our rates are competetive, that our water tastes half way decent, and that my electricity does not go out or fry out all my appliances...oh, and as the other commenter said, that the lift stations near my house don't stink like shit. I was very happy with PUB when we had electricity 24 hours after Hurricane Dolly while much of the rest of the valley under AEP had to wait 9 days for power. great job guys!!

If they have a residence somewhere else besides Brownsville, what the fuck do they care what the rates should be. The ridiculous rates they charge as well as the late charges they add to the bill is outragous! We are all paying these fuckers for them to have their apartments and their fancy houses and cars and we (the whole city) is trying to make it through on a weekly basis....

As for the BISD top administrators, it is a good idea to make a story on how much they make and how many assistants they have working for them..usually it will be between 2-4 people working "under" the main person in charge!

This is an oid article but worth reading. The bad things that happen to the citizens of Brownsville are inflicted upon them by those who do not live in Brownsville. The upper valley mocks Brownsville but many from those areas have no quams about getting a job here and making sure they get a big fat paycheck for the trouble. PUB has a long history of impoting its troubles and is willing to pay big for it. Why? "Everybody in Brownsville is related to a politician" "Don't hire local". If you want in, don't say you know "someone". Don't drop names. By the way people of Brownsville how are "we" doing at looking after YOUR INTERESTS. Blame the city commission if you don't like it. Mental weaklings! Now even they have to grobble for scraps from the PUB dinner table. Some MOU , huh. By the way has anybody noticed that Marilyn Gilbert and her hubby's net worth jumped by over a million in just one year.
