BROWNTOWN COPS: THANKS, BUT NO THANKS ON ERNIE

By Juan Montoya

LIke B'rer Rabbit and the Tar Baby, the Brownsville Police Department has declined to investigate whether any crime occurred in the fiasco surrounding the alleged illegal hiring of Cameron County Precinct 2 Commissioner Ernie Hernandez's brother in law Roberto Curiel.

Instead, intrepid BPD Chief Carlos Garcia has thrown the hot potato back in the laps of the county commissioners and suggested they contact their friendly Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos or the Texas Rangers.
Nobody, apparently, wants to get smeared on this one.

He did not explain to the Brownsville Herald why it took more than a month after the commissioners voted unanimously to refer the matter to the BPD to reach this decision.

As part of the evidence cited by the county that led them to make the request for an investigation from the BPD was the fact that Roberto Cadriel had taken the test twice and scored in the 30s each time. The third, apparently, was the charm because the score on that test was a 96.

At the time that questions began to arise, Cameron County Interim Human Resources Director Robert Lopez – who had just lost his runoff election for city commission – resigned his position "for personal reasons."

A cursory investigation by the county judge's office indicated that perhaps a female employee at the HR department may have been told to take the test on Cadriel's behalf.

Now, with the BPD out of the picture and the matter before the commissioners again, we are wondering whether the appropriate authority here – DA Armando Villalobos – will have to step into the politically loaded situation and perform his duty.

Incidentally, in looking over our old files, we have ascertained that Ernie has more than once gained the endorsement of the Brownsville Police Officers Association (BPOA) and lately, of the Cameron County Sheriff Deputies Association, who, unlike the Brownsville Unity Coalition (BUC), decided to give him their endorsement.

We wonder, will there be a renewed vigor on the part of the pertinent ;aw enforcement entities to get to the bottom of this matter, or will it become just another "cold case" characteristic of a long Hernandez tradition in public service?

Ernie is a thug and yet is protected by the Dumbokratic thugs like Gilberto Hinojosa and the current District Attorney. The Sheriff refused to arrest Aurora de la Garza's son for fraud and theft, the DA failed to really prosecute poor baby Joey de la Garza and then Judge "Disable" Limas freed little Joey...all because of the Dumbokratic Party conspiracy. Ernie fits right in. In a time of tight budget, why are taxpayers paying for the signs Ernie is putting up in his district on various projects. More asphalt and less signs would save the tax payer. Ernie is like Aurora de la Garza.....each leaves slime where ever they drag their slimey asses. That must be what the voters want.....

Chief Garcia is too in line with the politicos in this city. He compromises in favor of the politics....not for the citizens or even his officers. Garcia has given an order for officers to close their eyes to simple infractions of the law (children in car seats, seatbelts, insurance and other infractions....to be nice to the Mexicans and not piss off locals. Chief Garcia is a nice guy......but what this city needs now is some "tough love" and law enforcement.

The damage was committed in a county building and against the county why should the BPD even be considered? Villalobos is the one who should have ernie arrested but he thinks he is going to run for a bigger and better office when he can not do his job here. The corruption in Brownsville is incredible. Ernie is a known thug and yet he gets away with breaking the law all the time. The Sheriff is in cahoots with Rick Zayas and Cortez so do you think he is going to go against Ernie? I wonder what ernioe has on the Sheriff? Well this is his last term he will loose this term.
WE the voters are at fault. Look at Eddie sucio lucio ? what a shame it is our faulr for voting in trash like these guys. Well in Ernie's case he votes himself in you know the early voting.

This town is like "Old Town" in an old movie.Everyone looks the other way when paid. The police dept. is corrupt from the head to its foot patrol. This town would have been" CERRADO" long ago if it wasn't for drug trade.Drugs, the selling, the transport, the stash houses in every block.Everyone just bobs their heads in agreement;take their pay out & runs to HEB.As long as you have Fajitas & Budwieser you are rich.Another day in Old Browntown.Que lastima.

There is no "Honor" among thieves. These clowns will sell each other out at the appropriate time.Look @ Rosenthal, Solis & Limas.Rosenthal didn't want to pay Solis. Now they are both paying. Its a matter of time.

You know why we never get qualified candidates to run for office - because pricks like you do nothing but character assassinate all who have the courage to run. I don't like
Ernie. I think that Limas should die in prison. Why don't you do something constructive in your community instead of trying to tear it down. No valen dick maricones.

The offense was not committed against the county, it was against the people who live in the county. But, to follow up on your reasoning, if murder is committed in a county building in the city limits of Brownsville, should that be investigated by the county or the city?
Apparently, this one is unlikely to be investigated seriously at all. No wonder we have such limited public integrity.

Every time I see one of those "Ernie Hernandez" signs...that the taxpayers paid for....saying that the project was done by Ernie....I want to puke. Ernie uses tax dollars to promote himself. That is sinful. Ernie Hernandez is just another ego that needs public salve. Ernie Hernandez has never done anything that indicates he cares about the public.
