tration has placed principal Acacia Ameel on administrative leave.
The move was announced in an email to district board members and key administrators and did not specify the reasons for the move.
However, some administrators have said that the "spontaneous" protest against superintendent Carl Montoya and some of the board members that supported the implementation of a college-ready program at the high school had been coordinated by the principal's office.
Debbie Alford, the former administrator for Adult Education was named interim principal by the BISD Human Resources Department. Formerly, Alford was a principal at Canales Elementary School.

SUDENTS AT VETERENS HIGH know right from wrong they are smart enough..nobody forced us to write emails, make phone calls and go to the BISD meeting...our children have ALL THE RIGHT TO EXERCISE THEIR FREEDOM OF SPEECH FOR THeIR VOICE TO BE HEARD AS WEEL AS US PARENTS...as always that was just an excuse to get her out of there...administrative leave... usually means UR FIRED!!! What the board doesnt understand is that Mrs. Ameel has won the hearts of the majority of her sudents and she didnt have to try to hard or force them to do anyhing if the students and parents did this its becuz we all know how much our kids luv Mrs. Ameel..wish you all really knew all she does for our kids and her teachers n staff..if you all did she would had been left alone:(

So??? What is wrong with a principal trying to make implement a college-ready program??? Isn't that what a principal and a school district is supposed to do??? High school is to prepare one for college, right??? So, why was she suspended for wanting the "better good" for her students??? Boy, this sure sounds like politics at its best, STUPIDITY!!! So, there is a protest about it from administrators, teachers and parents, is that right??? If so, then I guess those persons don't think that their children or the student body is capable of being prepared for college??? Or, maybe they think that their children or the student body aren't smart enough to prepare for college??? If there is an Atkinson involved, then the principal must have waved off her advances since Atkinson is a "carpet muncher." Is Alford a "carpet muncher" too??? That's the reason they put her in at interim??? And imagine, BISD is supposed to be led by "educated people??? Oh well???
They are making a joke of BISD. Debbie had a ton of grievances against her at Canales. This is why STISD and IDEA are growing. They keep themselves clean of these shenanigans !!! God save BISD!!

Debbie Alford is related to the student who spoke at last nights meeting against the proposed plan. The board/Dr. Atkinson is trying to put an end to anyone questioning their doing and motives by putting a relative at Veterans. What a bunch of clowns! If they really cared about students, they would teach students about their right to free speech and peaceful demonstration. Instead, they are using intimidation tactics to put an end to what they consider insubordination. In democratic communities, it's called civic engagement!!!

This clearly demonstrates the dictatorship in local public education. We teach (I hope) our kids to stand up for themselves and not be buliied....yet the BISD Administration is just a guilt of bullying their employees and for discouraging initiative and innovation. Too bad the freedom of speech isn't recognised in BISD. As was said above....Welcome to Browntown!!
Ms. Ameel does not own Veterans High School. It is not hers to do as she pleases. Her supervisors are heading in the right direction by putting together a magnet school for the largest district south of San Antonio. New funding will follow. She is an employee and should have welcomed the new challenge. She needs to move own or get with the program. Our district will benifit from this new program as well as our kids.
I said it before, Cata hates principals! How many has she put on leave for making her look like a fool? She is the all powerful OZ right now. November 2012 Cata, and your reign is up. But keep it up PLEASE! You only have 99.9% of Brownsville that despises you....go for the 100%! who will be the next principal?
Wish I could get a list of how many people BISD has on administrative leave with pay. I've known people who have been out 6 months, a year and then get quietly placed back into the district on some other campus or in some other department and nothing more is ever said. Maybe we should all find out how to get a paid vacation!

A. Ameel is one of the greatest principals at BISD. EVERYONE loves and respects her because she earns it by her total dedication to her job.
I worked at a school once where a petition was passed around by the assistant principals to have one of their own appointed as principal.I was approached during my teaching time. Everyone at the main office was aware of this and no one raised an eyebrow. Many of us went to the meeting -staff-parents-students. She got the position and was gone in about 5 years to greener pastures thanks to all of us pendejos.
A.Ameel has roots here and a vested interest in our community-she will NEVER abandon us.

No one is against the program. We are against the way it was shoved down our throats. It was evident that the Majority of 4 had already made up their mind to vote for Agenda Item 6 on Agenda Item 9. Why was #9 removed? Because tonto-Montoya feared the audience. Did you see La Cata fume at the nose, mouth and ears when the crowd made a fool out of her. Did you see how she is so rude to Minerva Pena but she treats Longoria and Saaverdra with silk gloves. Oh, and why did Sylvia Atkinson do the presentation on a curriculum item when she is the Human Resource Administrator. Why was Cata present at the school meeting? That is against TEA and BISD pplicy. This could be enough to get rid of this wanna-be-dictator.
The board was able to get rid of Joey Lopez for unethical conduct regarding his position on the board, so why can we not remove Caty? And tonto-Montoya, when will Sylvia Atkinson give you the dates for the community meeting you stated would be held. Cut the strings, Montoya, quit being a puppet to the Drs. and Caty.
As to the comment that funding will follow, haven't you heard the state and federal government are broke? Where will this money come from? Ms . Ameel was doing her job. She was looking out for the teachers and students of VMHS. When did it become wrong the ask questions?can't wait for elections to come around! Battle cry will be remember Veterans? Remember the TM program at Hanna?
La Alford did not fit at Porter and was moved to Canales and now Canales is unacceptable. The data used for this was during her term at Canales. At Adult Basic, she is a figure-head and now she is going to be able to run a high school in the footsteps of a great administrator as Mrs. Acacia Ameel.
Students know what they have and they are smart enough to know what is good for them and who is good for them, and 99.9% of the students and faculty will stand by her through thick and thin. Make Breeden the STAMPS campus and leave VMHS alone!!!! What is wrong with you people? Que no te entra, Caty? Go back to selling popcorn at the Victoria Theater or was it the Ruenes Drive Inn?
Parents and students are smart enough to act on their own when someone steps on their toes. Caty Preses and her coharts did and so it was evident at the board meeting that they were not happy campers. Caty walked in late because she was sitting in her car waiting for security escorts into the building and then she kept running to the bathroom once she got in, probably when she saw that the board room was packed. She has such a hateful look towards people and towards Mrs. Minerva Pena. We need to start working on the next election to get rid of her. When does Escobedo, Longoria and Saavedra come up for reelection. We need to mark those dates on the calendar because we are too stupid or too dumb to start an impeachment or recall process. Maybe smarty pants Dr Atkinson can guide us on that? Ha!
According to the paper Mrs. Alford was not made interim. But the AA Ms Lopez will oversee the school.
No wonder BISD is losing students. Look at the stupidity? Instead of looking at ways to improve their schools by finding out what is making IDEA and STISD successful, they are acting out of haste by creating an elitist school, and many members of the community who voted for the bond don't like it now that the purpose of the school has been changed. BISD thinks that they can fill it up with the best students in BISD. So Ameel becomes the scapegoat because she is the principal when students and parents protested. What kind of record does the new principal have? If the prvious post about her scores are right, we are slipping into further educational depression.
Ask the teachers at Stell if they like Ameel. I hear they were glad she was moved from there. The brownsville cheezmeh, led by convicted felons, spark hate and fear without even knowing what is best for the students. Erasmo Castro and Linda Castro get a little attention and now they feel they can get ignorant people to follow them. Erasmo, I guess writing for the Cheezmeh is better than you fondling kids up north. Linda, I guess wrting for Cheezmeh is safer for the citizens of Brownsville than you forging paperwork for WIC applicants. THe eye in the sky is always watching cabrones!!!!

I am so disappointed in Dr. Carl Montoya! Such a pleasant person, but then Cata got a hold of him! Carl! Cata and Atkinson will be gone next year and if you don't buck their spurs, you will be gone also. You can put money on this prediction!

Fox would often visit her, pick up her kids, and bring her warm lunch. WoW an AA bring you lunch....the party is over for both of them...

It's Tony Fuller don't know Fred but even worse is the fact that many BISD admistrators have been moved to lower pay level jobs but still get the higher pay this year becuase of board policy. They were replaced by people at lower level poitions and they get the higher pay. I though BISD was short of money. The board doesn't seem to realize they are short of money.
Just those two on leave would be about 200,000. And Tony Fuller has been replaced so two people are being paid for the same job. Also you need to know that the current CFO was fired from his previous CFO position in a much smaller distrct.
Every high school in BISD is doing their job in preparing students for college. Students are eligible to take AP courses & Dual Enrollment courses in which they earn college hours. It is an insult to read that only these kids in the magnet programs will succeed. Everyone can make something of themselves if they had the support needed. It takes only one person to make a difference in a child's life. The district needs to do more to promote these course options & educate the parents. Dr. Atkinson needs to remember that she is not the superintendent.
Does Gary long work for BISD? His article today read like a press release from BISD. Come on herald. Be objective and not 1-sided.
All you Ameel supporters don't have to worry about her getting fired just because she was placed on adm leave w/pay! It's just a long paid vacation for her. She's laughing all the way to the bank! Don't you remember that they placed Karin Trevino on adm leave w/pay after they removed her from Cummings last year and then snuck her into Porter- demoted,but for this year at the same salary as last year! Karin did a lot worse things than Ameel so she'll still have a job- Not at Veterans,but somewhere.

In response to the 11:25 poster on why IDEA and STISD work. Very simple, they don't put up with parental, student, and bad teacher bull shit. You don't behave, you're gone, don't do your homework, you're gone, ineffective teacher, you're gone! That is the difference and these idiots at the glass palace think that parents who really care about their children are going to prefer BISD over IDEA etc. What a waste of education, absolutely, no common sense, but boy, they like to pay themselves very well!
Amen to the last post. Most Brownsville schools have more in common with riots in progress than educational centers for learning.
Atkinson has made a mess of every district she has worked in. She was fired from Los Fresnos and now works for BISD. This school district is such a let down. As a new teacher, I am so disappointed with all the power hungry tyrants that run BISD. And Montoya...they call him Tontoya! What does that tell you?? So sick of all this drama. It's all compadrismo, you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours kind of thing.
I know a teacher (hispanic)that was state recognized with all kinds of accolades! Applied at BISD and waited two months for a phone call. Went and applied in Los Fresnos and was hired the next day. Been there over ten years. Still waiting for that phone call! That is BISD and by the look of things, it's going to get worse. They need to get rid of a few administrators and a whole bunch of lazy ass clerks that work in Classified and Certified. Once recommended for hire, it still takes over a month to get cleared by personnel. Oh well, what else is new at BISD?
