FOR DAN SANCHEZ, THE PERKS INCLUDE TWO RESERVED PARKING SPOTS

By Juan Montoya

Remember how hard it was to get a parking space when you last visited the Cameron County Courthouse on Harrison Street?

If you were unlucky enough not to get one inside the large parking lot in front of the judicial building, you were doomed to wander the side streets looking for place to park long enough to do your business and hope that the city parking officers wouldn't find you had parked in front of one of those suspicious "illness" signs people seem to have bought from crooked city guys in the past.

Was there an epidemic around the courthouse in days gone by?

Anyway, one guy who doesn't seem to have any trouble finding a place to park his car is none other than Precinct 4 commissioner Dan Sanchez. Not only does the good commish have his own Pct. 4 parking slot at the Dancy Building, but he also seems to have taken over a constable's parking spot right in front of the east side of the courthouse.

(That's his car bearing his brother David's (a judge) campaign sticker on the rear window.)

We asked a security guard (bailiff) whether anyone could park there because the signs clearly state that they are for "Constables Only" and that unauthorized vehicles would be towed away at owner's expense.

The bailiff would only smile and said that the commissioner apparently had friends in the right places.

Not only does Sanchez get away with parking in spaces reserved for constables as an elected official but we also learned that he parks there while conducting business in his capacity as a lawyer.

"He gets here in his car with his secretary in the morning and doesn't leave until five," said a court regular. "His county-provided secretary is always with him."
Now, we remember that Dan promised that he would be a "full-time" commissioner for Precinct 4. But if he and his secretary are at the judicial building the whole day, who's minding the store at the precinct office?

Just thought we would ask.

Sanchez is just another dumbokratic DICK! He was regularly seen traveling with Judge "Disable" Limas on his jaunts to free basketball games and to Las Vegas. The Sanchez brothers seem to have egos as big as their girth. But, there is little indication either has a brain larger than a pea.

If Sanchez thinks he is better (bigger, at least) than other citizens, perhaps he has already failed as a public servant. Just another political "pendejo".

Dan parks wherever he wants because he can. So deal with it little people.

I don't know how he got elected, but he won, that does not make him special.
Maybe a letter to the editor and a good picture.

C’mon Juan be a little considerate. Sanchez needs and requires two parking spaces; one for his vehicle the other for his ego.

This is an apparent disregard for rules, regulations and authority??? The sign clearly states for "Constables Reserved Parking." So, just because he is an elected official, he can park where ever he wants??? As an elected official, isn't he supposed to set the example and abide by the rules??? He obviously hasn't learned anything from the Limas fiasco??? That's where it starts??? Break the law or disregard the rules which leads to bigger things??? Also, if he is at the courthouse all day with his county secretary then he is not performing county business??? Because if he was, he'd be at the Dancy Building??? He is doing his job as an attorney and is that county secretary doing his work also??? Looks like double dipping by the District Judges brother??? This is pure and simple abuse by an elected official who obviously does not abide by the rules??? Again, this is typical in Cameron County??? Oh, to that baliff that did not enforce the rules, shame on you??? Do you job as you were employed to do??? So, he's the county commissioner, maybe he will take it like a man if you do it right??? But, knowing Dan??? He will just blow you off because that's the way he is and he feels that the world owes him??? This is a clear case of official abuse and oppression!!!

Dan Sanchez uses the system for his own benefit and that of his cronies. He started 2011 by hiring a former JP rumored to be a cuz of his as a Secretary at about $36,000a year. I too am wondering how Sanchez can be a fulltime commissioner which I'm sure he gets paid to do and still spends most of his days at the Courthouse practicing Law ? Rrun Rrun has it Sanchez wants to eliminate some services in his Precinct. It is unheard of that a Commissioner would want to eleminate services in their own precinct? WOW does that sound familiar Dan ? I do not personally know Sanchez, but have heard enough about him and have listened to some of his retoric while sitting within earshot at some local eateries and I don't trust his double talk. And the Rrun Rrun is Sanchez has his sights set on the County Judge's seat ??? Lord help us all if that ever happens.
