Remember the brouhaha that erupted when former Brownsville city commissioner Charlie Atkinson challenged the residency of then-write-in candidate Jessica Tetrau-Kalifa for District 2?
When the case got to court, who was it that claimed it was "crap" that he had counseled Charlie not to get legal over the issue before the election?
And remember that there was a strange silence from Elizabeth and Tenth Street when it was asked why the City of Brownsville was present to back up Jessica in a challenge where it wasn't named as a party?
And who was it that called Jessica at all hours of the night to the point where it became an object of contention and led to a spat between the new commissioner and her mate resulting in an incident where police had to be called in and a report filed?
Why, it was none other than our own high-priced gun for sale contract attorney Mark Sossi.
Now, before you, the reader, write this off as just conjecture seeing how he claimed that his relationship with his employees was "purely professional," how many other city commissioners and the mayor can recall that their lines were flooded with calls from Sossi during the period that Atkinson was challenging the fair damsel's eligibility to run for that district?
I am not a betting man, but I would be willing to risk losing the favorite book in my collection that no one else can produce phone records that would prove me wrong.
Sossi will keep his part-time $120,000 gig as long as he keeps four commissioners on his side. Whatever else he gets from the arrangement is just gravy.

His advice to the commission has resulted in gagging the critics of the administration so no one else but the people in the commission chamber will hear them. He was placed in the charter review committee to see whether he could talk the members into granting the commissioners a salary and the assorted perks they were taking without the benefit of the law even after the coters had given the idea a thumbs down.
As a result, he went on to rake in a nice $40,000 windfall to defend them taking the perks and lost in court.
This, by the way, is the guy that our "Believe in Brownsville" mayor Tony Martinez entrusted with drafting a code of ethics for the City of Brownsville.
His protege moved recently inside of District 2 (Gereenfield Drive) by her own admission to quell the lingering suspicions that she ran for that position and didn't live in the disrict.
Sossi will draft the new code of ethics and Jessica will have a vote in adopting it.
Is it any wonder that no one has any faith left in this system?

What is your favorite book? I am confused, are you implying there was a more than a professional relationship
Between the two or that Sossi was the one whose intentions were seeking something more than professional?
Damn, that woman looks like a horribly hungover Regis Philbin.
Rudolpho.
I really like that photo. She looks cute and kooky all at the same time.
• Mayor Tony Martinez should ask Commissioner Jessica to give up her seat but again where the hell is our Mayor. Brownsville should no longer elect & support people that have no idea how to run a city. Electing people for the simple reason of friendships is not a great idea, look at where we are nowhere. Look at what’s happing in our Cameron County Court!
Brownsville so sad!
What a bunch of Morons we have elected here in Brownsville starting with the mayor and ending up with that ugly looking white trash loser from wherever she lives and that is not in District 2. RECALL HER. Cheezmeh where the f r u
Sossi and Tetreau sitting in a tree,...K-I-S-S-I-N-G-,.....How many beers did you have to drink to get the nerve to dive into that Sossi? Mis respetos,.....esos son huevos.
