By Juan Montoya
The name slipped under the radar at first, but after a closer look, once we read that attorney George Muñoz would be defending Austin attorney Marc Rosenthal, we know that his working for the defense means that they have pulled out all the stops.
According to his firm's website, prior to co-founding the Muñoz Group, a finance and consulting firm, Muñoz was the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (1997-2001), an independent agency of the Federal Government.
As CEO, he oversaw an $18 billion dollar portfolio of loans, guarantees and political risk insurance on private sector investments in the emerging markets. Muñoz continues to work closely with the business and government leaders of Asia, Africa, Southeastern Europe and Latin America that he met while at OPIC.
And before that, Muñoz was appointed by President Bill Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Assistant Secretary and Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. Treasury Department (1993-1997). Muñoz oversaw the Treasury's budget, financial statements and management policies.
The kicker is that he worked closely with the Treasury Bureaus including, the IRS, Customs, OCC, OTS, FMS, ATF, and the Secret Service.
Originally from Brownsville, Muñoz graduated from St. Joseph Academy and is also a licensed in several states as an attorney and certified accountant
He is a member of the Board of Directors of Altria Goup, Marriott International, and the National Geographic Society.
Munoz served as President of the Chicago Board of Education (1984–87) and became a national advocate for school reform and drop-out prevention programs.
He received a law degree from Harvard Law School a MAster in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School in 1978.
He also holds a Master of Laws in Taxation degree from DePaul University (1984) and a BBA (Accounting) degree from the University of Texas at Austin (1974). He is a Certified Financial Planner and formerly served on the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards.
So, if the feds and local prosecutors think they will have a cakewalk in prosecuting Rosenthal, they might have another thing coming.

BFD - big fuking deal ! ! !
This local st joes boy is a heavy wait country club wanna be in the obama neighborhood, chicago back with Clinton days ! ! !
Roooosen. . . "swarzinator terminator look alike" and his local "gamez no mamez" knows the case is air tight but had to come up with a new plan to justify his
$ 150,000 payment for services.
The fix is in to have limas go along with anything gamez says to keep the rest of the skeletons in the closet ! !
Somebody, some attorney has to be
able to talk plain english to the jury . . . have you ever heard gamez make a complete sentence ? ?
I just wish someone of this caliber would stay or consider returning to Brownsville. Just Imagine, what a man with Brains, drive and desire could do as Mayor.
For somebody who is supposed to be broke, he sure can pay for two attorneys? Doesn't Rosenthal have family involved in businesses in Las Vegas? The gall but not surprising that Gamez is yelling foul about the investigation? That's the way he is and its a short man syndrome. Why hasn't the Federal judge kicked him off? He has made money from all those involved in this corruption? Word is that Gamez and Mandito had an exchange of words while the investigation was going on? You're not out of the woods yet Mandito!
(Just Imagine, what a man with Brains, drive and desire could do as Mayor.)
LOL! But, you are sooo right!
