ERNIE HERNANDEZ: ALMS FOR THE POOR! ALMS FOR THE POOR!

By Juan Montoya
Coming off what he himself characterized as a "successful" pre-Thanksgiving dinner for 600 attended by a bevy of candidates including his daughter Erin running for Justice of the Peace, Cameron County Precint 2 commissioner Ernie Hernandez is at it again.
This time, Ernie is making his pitch to local businesses and individuals asking for donations to "bring a little holiday cheer to the less fortunate in our community."
As before, he is counting on donations to make his politially-tainted events a "sucess."
Tha last time that the event was held at the Centro Cultural in Cameron Park, Ernie glowingly wrote that "We served over 600 plates to the residents of Cameron Park and our Pct 2 workers. All the food and fixins were donated and there were atleast 50 volunteers to help serve and clean up. Dr Asim Zamir donated 225 plates of food and members of his staff showed up to help serve."
What he didn't mention is that Cameron County residents who wish to hold organizational meetings to pressure politicians to service their colonia have been prohibited from using the Centro that they lobbied for but sees nothing wrong in hosting a blatant political gathering where his daughter Erin was featured prominnently in Internet photos showing her serving the "less fortunate in our community."
On November 28, 2011, several readers of this blog have voiced their objections to the use of the Centro and point to the Cameron County Park and Recreation Policy Handbook.
"B. There shall be no political affiliated functions or signs on park premises at any time. from what I understand even them (candidates) wearing Pins would make it a political event."
Another wrote that she (or he) lives in Cameron Park and since Centro Director Marty Cramer took over, she has not allowed us to gather there and meet like before. The programs that were there for our children are no longer there, either. And they have always told us that we cannot anything that might be considered political. But now all the political candiates come around a bring us food and introduced themselves to us. What we want is for us to be allowed to hold our meetings like before and to have our own cultural center like before. Thay all have their own clubs, and this one was ours at one time."
It is no secret that Ernie sees Cameron Park political support as critical to his daughter's JP candidacy. He knows that political movers and shakers there could make the difference in her race, especially since one of her opponents, Yolanda Begum, enjoys widespread politial support because of her volunteer work with Cameron Park children.
As usual, Ernie is appearing heavy handed in his approach to politics at public expense. His assessment of
Centro Director Cramer's perfromance in the operation of the former community center: "Marty Cramer did an outstanding job..."
On the same day, however, a local television station featured a broadcast on the stagnant and polluted resaca abutting the colonia that no one in the county – including Ernie – seems to want to do aything about.
"He would rather politic at our center than to do something about that mess," wrote another reader.

It's not Ernie's fault that the residents of Cameron Park trash their beautiful resaca.

No one has done more for Cameron Park than Ernie Hernandez, Jr. But, even when Ernie tries to do good, he gets criticized. That park does not actually belong to Cameron Park, anyway. It's in the county, so it's available to anyone in the county, none better than a county commissioner and future justice of the peace.

(so it's available to anyone in the county,)

I'd love to see you take your family there for a picnic. Don't forget body armor. I'd also advise you to go armed.

What is wrong with this picture? Cameron Park residents are not allowed to use the center for organizational meetings but Ernie is allowed to host a political event. The real question here is....did Marty Cramer violate the the Cameron County Parks & Recreation Policy of allowing a politically affliated function to take place? If indeed the policy exists and prohibits this type of functions to take place, shouldn't county officials be asking for her resignation or at the very least assess a reprimand?

Ernie do good? Who are you kidding. Since he has taken office he has been nothing but contriversy. I dont think it takes a genious to figure out that Ernie did all the work for Cameron Park. Why not give Carlos Cascos some credit for paving our roads. Ernie has been known to want to take credit for everything he doesnt do. I hope he gets voted out of office next election unless he gets indicted before he leaves office. Rumor is that the F.B.I. is investigating to see if he was involved in the hiring of his family member. The job our idiot D.A. cant even do. Go figure....

I’m a resident of Cameron Park and I live by the resaca. The problem is that the resaca needs to be connected to the drainage ditch because the water has nowhere to go when we get excessive amounts of rain. When the water from our Resaca flooded our properties we reported the flooding to the commissioner from this precinct and his solution was to release the polluted water from our resaca to other resacas, (Dana Road Resaca, Sol Road Resaca, Robindale Resaca, and OPI Road Resaca) therefore polluting them. Cameron Park is not on the outskirts of Brownsville like it used to be. It’s now in the heart of Brownsville. This is not just Cameron Park’s problem; it is everyone’s problem.

P.S. Cameron Park residents do vote.

I live in Cameron Park, and Martha Kramer has done nothing but alienate the Cameron Park residents. She is not from our community, she can hardly speak Spanish, she does not understand our culture, and she has been very rude with the all of us that used to frequent the Center. That is why only a few people went to this political party. and only for the food. we don't trust Mr. Hernandez or his intentions. if he brings food again we might go but don't expect us to help him to elect his daughter or him again.

Ernie only does good for Ernie lol lol

Ernie is going to let Marty Cramer take the rap for him just like he did with Lopez. Because there was a violation for using the facility for political reasons. and we the residents of Cameron Park are going to denounce it. This man is an expert at breaking the law and getting away with it. there is a saying "nations have the gorvement they deserve" in this case, our city of Brownsville has the government it deserves, because nobody does anything to stop this man. are we all cowards?

WHY IS EVERYONE SO WORRY ABOUT, EL CENTRO CULTURAL? IN A FEW YEARS WE ARE ALL GOING TO BE SO SICK, WE ARE NOT GOING TO CARE ABOUT THAT! ONCE THAT DIRTY WATER FROM OUR RESACA STARTS CONTAMINATING EVERYTHING, AND EVERYONE. WE ARE NOT GOING TO KNOW WHAT TO DO. WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT OUR PROBLEM WITH OUR RESACA NOW! WE NEED TO SPEAK UP UNTIL THEY HEAR US. THEY SAY THAT THE RESIDENTS FROM CAMERON PARK ARE IGNORANTS, AND THAT WE DON'T VOTE. WE NEED TO SHOW THEM THAT WE KNOW WHAT IS IMPORTANT. WE NEED TO VOTE OUT THOSE THAT DON'T HELP US. WE NEED TO GET PEOPLE THAT WILL HELP US, TO SOLVE OUR PROBLEM WITH OUR RESACA.
