It's a cruel world out there.
If Republican Cameron County Sheriff candidate Joe Cisneros didn't know it before, he knows it now.
Cisneros, fired from his bailiff position at the judicial wing of the county courthouse, is making a run for his party's primary this March. If successful, he might be facing his former boss, Sheriff Omar Lucio next November in the general election.
Bailiff supervisor Constable Pete Avila told the local daily he had terminated Cisneros for cause, although the normally loose-lipped law enforcement official would only say that he couldn't discuss personnel matters in public. Cisneros was a probationary employee and therefore did not qualify for Civil Service protection.
However, in the article appearing in the local daily, the issue of politics involved in the firing reared its ugly head. There had been reports of Cisneros campaigning and handing out cards at the courthouse and apparently this played a part in it.
The courthouses bailiffs were recently placed under Avila's supervision after the county commissioners rejected Lucio's demand that they all be placed under his command to move and replace as he saw fit. The various judges have their favorites placed as bailiffs in their courts and they decided that they should continue exercising their right to choose their court bailiffs.
However, everyone wondered what would happen to those bailiffs who were stationed as security at the entrance and as rovers in the hallways of the three-story courthouse. One of those rovers was Cisneros.
There were, aside from the politicking, other issues at work here. While some of us have been handed cards by Cisneros while we visited the courthouse, it was never an overt type of politicking like some candidates who work for the county are wont to do. There were also some rumors of a "borrowed" CD, for example, that were never mentioned. What is known is that Cisneros did sign the complaint form acknowledging that he had been given a written form when he was interviewed by Avila.
Still, the fact that both Avila and Lucio are up for re-election may have played a part in Cisnero's firing.
In the cards that Cisneros handed out, his message was directly aimed at the Lucio administration.
His campaign card must have read like an indictment against the Lucio administration with its slogan of "A new sheriff for the people (in contrast with an old sheriff for the people?)."
Among some of the other objectives he promises to fulfill are:
"Bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community."
"Establish safety educational and gang intervention programs."
"Protect out children from predators and drugs."
And, the kicker: "To provide a secure working environment and advocate for better training, wages, and equipment for Cameron County employees."
"Provide necessary treatment & protection for all Cameron County inmates," and "Improve relations with local and federal agencies to curtail activities and border violence in our county."
Now we hear that Cisneros may not be the only one whose head is on the block among the courthouse bailiffs. Everyone is still waiting for the other shoe to drop. It's ironic that this happened as the deputies and bailiffs campaign for collective bargaining with the voters in the constitutional proposition elections now being held until Nov. 8.
It is unknown what the former state trooper will do for a living while he campaign for his party's primary, but this latest unkindest cut of all could just fuel his energy to run against his former boss even more.

Omar Lucio is an old, senile limp DICK who needs to be replaced. He is guided by the Dumokratic Party of old and can't be trusted. We need a real sheriff, who is willing to fight for the rights of the citizens.....not fight for his political power. Just a hive of politicos at the sheriff's office and no one who is willing to put justice over politics and favoritism.
(Omar Lucio is an old, senile limp DICK)
And so you're assuming that Joe Cisneros has a hard-on? I had no idea that a hardon was a requirement/qualification for the job. And may we assume that you will take personal charge of measuring all candidates for their "proper" requirements?
Rudolpho.
Joe Cisneros is law enforcement we can be proud of. He's smart, level-headed, experienced and non-political. He is a former DPS officer who has the full respect of former and present officers of the Department, I know he will do us all proud.
CORRECTION:
"In contrast with an OLD sheriff NOT for the people"

I will not vote for Omar Lucio. Forget that he is ancient. He is a poor administrator who runs an inefficient jail which has not been in compliance with State standards for the past 10 years. But the main reason is because he is in cohoots with RICK ZAYAS and RUBEN CORTEZ (Gus Reyna 's nephew) in their very proitable joint venture at the jail commissary . What a bunch of thiefs.
The real questions is: Will the metric or U.S. standard system of measurement be used?
We are seeing the MAJOR DESTRUCTION THE DEMOC-RAT PARTY IS DOING TO OUR COUNTRY LET GET RID AS MANY AS POSSIBLE-SI SE PUEDE!!!!!!!!!!!
JOE CISNEROS YOU CAN COUNT ON MY VOTE!!!!!!!
joe just sign up for your unemployment and state you were terminated under a hostile environment or go work for a compadre for 2 weeks and then you automaticly get your unemployment approved and you can campaign fully time. hey i been there and done that. these 2 vatos are puros cool arrows, y el omar gotta go brother
Sheriff Omar Lucio is not only the most educated sheriff in the State of Texas (he has a doctorate in law enforcement), he is a good family man. The most important is that Cameron County the safest county that borders Mexico. You can see the problems in Hidalgo County, Starr County, Webb County. The problems that are bleeding over in those counties are not happening here in Cameron County. Being a Democrat or Republican shouldn't be the issue: the safety of our families is the issue. Joe Cisneros was fired from DPS (Department of Public Safety) and has been arrested in Harlingen for domestic violence. I, being in law enforcement for over 35 years, recommend that the citizens of Cameron County keep Sheriff Lucio during this time of unrest in Mexico.
Why is Omar Lucio the only RGV Sheriff who doesn't think there is any problem with crossover violence....even after several cartel leaders are caught on this side as they cruize up and down our streets and highways, buy houses on this side and run their criminal enterprizes from this side. Omar Lucio is either stupid/misinformed or part of the problem....which is it.
Ohh but you can trust Cisneros who goes around "borrowing" personal items WITHOUT PERMISSION and then returns them incomplete, damaged, and after two or more weeks when it is brought up to his attention, who has a not valid expired drivers license since 2006 and that is who you call a possible "SHERIFF" CANDIDATE. If you really want to know Cisneros' true history then start doing your homework and you will see that his background is not all that crystal clear as he presumes and much less "TRUST WORTHY" with very minimal stuff, much less a WHOLE COUNTY itself. Why was he let go from the troopers, Pct 3 and how Pct 2? All three positions have one thing in common for the FIRING of CIsneros. And lets not go into his personal life because even there he is a very unstable man, where violance is his main defect and has no feelings for others but his and his personal gain in the relationship! A man like this can not be in charge of a family, much less a whole county itself!!!
The problems that are bleeding over in those counties are not happening here in Cameron County.
Your are nuts,...correction your a numbnuts!!!

OUTSTANDING!!! And thank you.
Rudolpho.
Hey, nuts: for your information, the cartel members that have been arrested in Cameron County are in this county for a reason: it is the safest county on the border. We have had 5 murders in Cameron County this year, compared to 35 in Hidalgo County and 25 in Starr County and 37 in Webb County. Get the picture, buddy?
Gus dejalo que Lucio se defienda solo. No le mames tanto. Oh by the way there is no such thing as a "Doctorate in Law enforcement".
Joe Cisneros crying foul??? Joe, you know exactly what you are??? You were told to leave DPS because you and Robert Malish were compiling stolen vehicles and screwing the insurance companies. Joe, you would walk away with pies when the Hgn. Station BBQ in the rear parking lot. Joe, you have been pocketing political contributions knowing that you don't have a prayer to win an election, much less be Sheriff. Joe, you dated one of the nicest ladies for years and used her for your own political and financial gain. Joe, you dump her and marry a rich girl from Monterrey. Joe, you got divorce from that rich girl because she finally figured out you were nothing more than a "mooch! Joe, we in the courthouse know that you a sneak, cheat, womanizer and campaigned all the time while you there. Joe, you really think that people would vote for you and put their public safety in your hands??? Joe, hang it up and get a real job!!!
You are correct. They do not call it a doctorate in law enforcement. I wasn't sure you would understand or recognize the proper term -- which is a doctor of jurisprudence degree. This means that he has essentially a doctorate in law. That makes Omar Lucio the most educated sheriff in the StatebofbTexas.
Joe Cisneros was fired from DPS. He beats up women.
is lucio a doctor now? wow i thought he was one of the momias de guanjanto y anda con cortez y zayas peorque el dan dinero no other reason as for the spillover it does not exist in cameron county, cameron is immuned to that right? time for a change here too, yea right

THERE IS AN ALLEDGED UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN GUS AND THE CARTELS AS TO KEEP EVERYTHING HUSH, HUSH:
THE CARTEL'S BABY BROTHER THAT WAS GUNNED DOWN BY 511, THE 15 MINUTES SHOOT OUT THAT HAPPENED IN BROWNSVILE, THE CARTEL'S RELATIVE THAT WAS BUSTED IN SP, BUT GUS KNOWS ABOUT ALL THESE?
Omar Lucio, you need to get rid of Gus Reyna! He is one of the reasons that will lead to your down fall. As far as his brother, he is at least sincere in his following. But Gus, who like stated above, knows exactly what is going on in Cameron County. I hope that you are not saying that there is no cartel violence here because of him? We may not be like Hidalgo or Starr but give it time. The only reason there is minimal violence here is because we are "bottle necked" here and there is only one way out, which is west or south. That gives the good guys the edge in capturing them. The shooting of the deputy in Hidalgo is only the stepping stone of them or their associates challenging the authority! All the kidnappings, home invasions and robberies are all ties to cartel infiltration by recruiting our local gang members! Wake up!
I think all the administration has to go with Lucio hes done hes old. Hes just the Reyna brothers puppet thats all.... The Cptn has no integrity, the Chief is a drunk Lucio is just to old what other reason do u want. That Cptn reyna is a real piece of work criticizing deputy candidates cause theyre to fat OMGGG look at urself in the mirror MR BARIGGA.U all r a bunch of morons with no ethics.INTEGRITY MY ASS wat a joke
lucio an dreyna son pura quacha, los mohoneys
Just to mention Sheriff wanna-be Cisneros, no one mentions the fact he spend alot of his time keeping his theiving brother Leebrado out of jail.
