PORT OF BROWNSVILLE HIRES NEW HARBORMASTER, AND IT AIN'T KERI

November 28, 2011: (Public Service Announcement from the Port of Brownsville)
Michael Davis has been hired as Harbormaster for the Port of Brownsville. Mr. Davis’ first day on the job is Monday, November 28, 2011.
Mr. Davis’ wealth of knowledge spans over 20 years in the maritime industry.  Among his experience, Mr. Davis has served as Director of Operations at the Port of Palm Beach and Seaport Superintendent at the Port of Miami.
“We are very fortunate to have someone with Mike’s professional experience,” said Port Director & CEO, Eduardo A. Campirano." The Harbormaster’s office is very similar to a control tower at an airport.  The duties of the Harbormaster consist of coordinating vessel activities, managing vessel traffic, while ensuring cargo operations proceed smoothly and safely.  Mr. Davis will be working at a leading U.S. in-transit Port according to Campirano.
“We are among the country’s leaders in steel imports and exports….if you look at our latest figures we are having a strong financial year, and we are the only port located on the U.S./Mexico border,” added Campirano.
In addition, total vessel traffic is up over 24%, with total cargo increasing over 12% when compared to this point in time last year. Operating revenues have increased over 17% during the same period.
“We are having a strong year and anticipate that trend to continue into the future,” added Campirano.
The Brownsville Navigation District strives to be recognized for excellence in stewardship, earning strong public confidence in sound and responsive operations.
By 2015, the Port will have created more quality jobs, attracted more private and public investment, increasing port capacity, protecting the environment, and promoting common good through the strategic development of the Port of Brownsville. It is this very commitment to excellence that will ensure the Port of Brownsville will continue to contribute to the community for years to come."
