CAMPIRANO AND BND BOARD GENEROUS WITH TAXPAYERS' MONEY

By Juan Montoya
This Christmas, like a few Christmas in the past few years, many local residents will have to tighten their belts and there will be fewer presents under their families' tree.
But not at the Port of Brownsville. There, as in years past, Port of Brownsville employees – already some of the highest paid public servants in the area – will share in the spirit of Christmas compliments of the port administration and the board of the Brownsville Navigation District with a nice bonus and a gift card for their shopping pleasure.Last year, 92 port employees received the a $200 bonus and a $50 gift card. This year, if nothing changes, a similar giveaway will take place for the hardworking elves out at the Golden Ditch. An estimate of the actual cost of the giveaway at taxpayer expense was provided to El Rrun-Rrun by the port's administration and totalled some $24,497. The actual number, the administration warns, could be higher because of withholding of taxes on the actual amount.
Things haven't been going well in the local and national economy, but if the port's largess to its employees at taxpayer expense is any indication, the hard times facing local residents isn't any skin off its nose or the port's board of directors.
Merry Christmas from Port Director Eddie Campirano, board members John Reed, Martin Arambula, Ralph Cowen, Tito Lopez, and  Carlos Masso!

Compared to the 14 million BISD is giving away, this is a drop in the bucket! Oh yes, the three year contract given the superintendent with a superintendent life span of a year and a half at BISD. That is a nice bonus at the taxpayers and childrens expense!

Did your kids get any gifts, Juan? LOL!!!

This is the reason that the Port should no longer tax the public. While we are asked to tighten our belts, the BND Board issues bonuses and pay hikes. This is the reason the nation is in the hole...same old political greed.
