When elections campaigning and Charro Days meld in the same month as they do this year, expect the candidates to be out there pressing the flesh and meeting the parade goers on Elizabeth Street.
This year it's no different with candidates from congressional hopefuls
to justice of the peace and constables to be jumping into the crowds.
Even before the children parade got going today, Justice of the Peace 2-2 can
didate Yolanda Begum and her supporters were out putting her food stand in place in front of her headquarters located smack in front of the Charro Days office.
By the time the 2 p.m. parade time got under way, the stand was up and running as other candidates crowded around and put up their own campaign signs near the corner.
During the International Parade on Saturday, there will be countless politicians of all stripes and persuasions riding on floats and convertibles decked out in their Charro Days best.
They will all pass by the Charro Days office (and Yoli's stand and headquarters) where she and her supporters will stand in review of the passing parade.
"We're going to be meeting people all weekend," Begum said. "On Friday we'll be here after 6 p.m. weather permitting and on Saturday we'll be here at 2 p.m. for the final parade. Drop by and say hi."

Browntown needs new perspective.
As someone who is not paying much attention to the races other than the congressional race because I have a relative running...this race draws my attention because of the amount of money that Mrs. Yolanda Teran Begum is spending. Giant billboards, commercials (that I have not seen on TV just on facebook) advertising on the herdald. Why is she spending so much money on a postion that pays (from what I was told) about $48,000.00 and is only for two years. Everyone knows her son is an attornye, but she is not. Why the big push to be a justice of the peace? Seems as though this would be a huge benefit to her son. Also, what I don't get is that all she talks about is Truancy. A JP court handles much, much more than Truancy? What are her thoughts on everything else that the court handles?
Maybe she is spending money on billboards because one of her opponents kept stealing and cutting down her yardsigns. Bad sportsmanship like that is the reason why people want to donate to her campaign to help her win. I donated money to her. Billboards and TV ads can't be stolen by her nasty opponent. Good for her! Go Yolanda!
I am so proud of the clean and decent campaign Yolanda Begum is running. I love her billboard and hope she puts up more, that the Hernandez's will not be able to cut up and tear down. They never saw it coming that if they continued to destroy her signs she would continue to replace her signs and then go to tv and billboards. Go Yolanda, you can win this race, this is a race of good vrs. evil and you will prevail.
Yolanda already knows who took down her signs and it was not any of her oppononents....
I am a good friend of the Begum family I have known Alex and Sasha since they were born. Both of them are very smart and very successful with offices in San Antonio, Mcallen, Laredo and Houston, I know they are supporting her in her campaign because they love her, not because they expect to get anything out of it. And it is only natural that if Alex has all the resources to promote his firm he is going to use the same resources to help her mother achieve her goal, simple as that.

Ernie and Erin Hernandez seem distressed that Begum is running a professional campaign. Did Erin already piss her money away on Cheezmeh endorsements and a gazillion yard signs from daddy's yard sign shop? Uh-oh!

Good God Letty Garzoria, you and Yolanda must have nightmares about the Hernandez's. You all are obsessed with them. You all are absolutely ridiculous in your comments. It seems as though you all have forgotten that Yolanda has three other people, other than Erin Garcia, that are running against. All of whom in my opinion are much more qualified than Ms. Begum. They at least have high school diplomas and law enforcement training. I'm sorry, Yolanda does not bring any thing to the table.
