THEN THERE WERE FOUR IN TSC TRUSTEES MAY 12 ELECTION

By Juan Montoya

The last-minute candidacy of Maribel Guerrero for a seat on the Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees was followed by her not-so-surprising last-minute withdrawal, leaving four candidates for two positions to be vacated by David Oliveira and Robert Robles.
HINOJOSA
URESTI
Guerrero, who is said to be married to Ruben Guerrero, a principal in the firm of Breeden-McCumber, the public relations firm that does work for UTB-TSC, is said to have told close associates that she would consider withdrawing from the May 12 election if she felt that her candidacy was not needed.
Guerrero's exit leaves Place 7 to either Ramon Hinojosa, a former superintendent and educator for 38 years, or Robert Uresti, whose Facebook Page lists him as a Pan American University graduate who studied Economics at Texas A&M and is now "working almost every day" as a laborer at Galaxia Car Wash.
Vying for Place 6 is Dr. Reynaldo Garcia, a dentist, and City of Brownsville high-tech guru Tad Hasse, both of whom are said to favor the UTB-TSC split.
HASSE

GARCIA
Uresti is seen as somewhat of a loose cannon and a gadfly. His appearances before the various governmental entities are often marked by acrimonious assertions and argument.
Hinojosa said he wants to set TSC on a firm financial footing and to make tuition and other costs associated with attending a community college affordable and accessible as they used to be when TSC was on its own.
Apparently, that was enough to garner the support of the BUC board (Brownsville Unity Council, a coalition of unions and worker associations), in writing. Depending on how hard this organization works, it seems that Hinojosa may have a leg up on his opponent.
Anyway you slice it, it appears that UTB President Juliet Garcia's historical influence on the board has seen its last days.

Uresti spoke out in favor of unification at the big meeting last year when the trustees decided to move forward with autonomous institutions.

("working almost every day" as a laborer at Galaxia Car Wash.)

It's located right in the middle of Las Prietas. Somebody must be paid ($3.75 an hour) to clean it up on a constant basis.
