(Ed's. Note: Ever since UTB-TSC president Juliet Garcia unilaterally announced the demise of the baseball program, aficionados have been coming to grips with the edict and are finding that some of the numbers used to justify baseball getting the ax don't jive with the PR announcements. In the following link we brazenly lifted from Chris Davis's Cafe Brownsville, we include the analysis of the numbers associated with the end of the program.)

The baseball program at UTB and TSC is the longest running sports program at this institution beginning in 1974.
In a 3/14/07 Herald article, Sen. Eddie Lucio and Rep Eddie Lucio III carried a bill thru the Texas Legislature allowing UTB-TSC to charge each student $7 per semester hour to fund all athletics at the University. Spring 2012 enrollment at UTB-TSC is approximately 12,500 (excluding dual enrollment).
If an average student takes 30 hours during the year, the total revenue produced for this fund would equal $2,625,000. A Herald article dated 12/15/11 indicates that the $7 fee will increase to $7.26 in 2012-2014 resulting in revenues of $2,722,500.
The same article indicates that the budget for the baseball program for 2011-2012 is $287,916 plus the field maintenance yearly cost of $39,116.
In Dr Garcia’s letter to the baseball players, she indicates that the costs are approximately $300,000 and that UTB will not have access to the field because it belongs to TSC.

The baseball program existed at TSC before UTB was born....so the program logically should go to TSC along with the Scorpion logo. Juliet is pissed about the "divorce" and will make a show of all transition actions. She has made a big show over "firing" professors....which had to come with the transition. Juliet is sore loser and will surely go down screaming....all dictators do.
Do this figures include the dormitories, meals, etc. The volleyball teams includes about 13 players, the baseball team about 40. Volleyball national champions, baseball team . . .no comment.
Men's soccer conference champs since the program began
